NEA 15 Range Report

Well I finally got out to the range for a few hours tonight and got about 100 rounds down the pipe of my brand new NEA 15. I followed the NEA break in procedure so I could try to rule out any user caused issues.

Here are a few details.

Rifle - NEA 15 14.5 inch in burnt bronze. Latest generation with m-lok hand guard.
Optic - Bushnall AR Optic 1-4x 24mm Throw Down PCL
1 metal 5 round mag (IWI i believe)
6 polymer MFT 10 round pistol mags
PMC .223 ammo
Indoor range at 25 yard ( to cold out to be at the out door range, cause....well I'm kinda soft like that...lol)

What I can tell you so far is i am fairly impressed. The rifle ran flawlessly. No FTF or FTE. Everything ran exactly how it was intended to. Parts remained tight that are suppose to be tight and there is no rattling or odd movement. The trigger was smooth ( although a little heavy in my opinion but the owners manual states that this will soften a little). I got on target quickly and saw consistent groupings at 25 yard.

When I got home I broke the rifle down and gave it a good cleaning and detailed inspection. What I found was truly anti-climactic. Everything was exactly how it should be including the finish and all the parts. Put everything back together smoothly and into the safe till the weekend.

So i am breathing a little easier now. I felt like I took a bit of a chance buying the rifle given some of the poor and mixed reviews but so far it look like a good decision. Hoping it stays that way. I will post some more updated as I get more range time.

Nice. With all of the stuff surrounding NEA on CGN it's understandable that it can feel like you're taking a "bit of chance" but the reality, as you've discovered, is quite often different. Looking forward to the updates as you put more ammo through it.
 
I have basically the same rifle as you, even burnt bronze in colour! :)

I don't even know how many thousand rounds mine has through it now. Upwards of 7000 I'm sure. No problems at all. Only thing I didn't like was the muzzle brake so I took it off and replaced it with a basic flash hider.

I heard all the NEA horror stuff too, but thought I would try it out anyway as Canada Ammo had a great sale on so I thought I would take a chance. I'm glad I did, as I have no complaints.
 
I had a slightly sour experience with my first NEA upper, but considering it was second or third hand I got over it pretty quick. Have really wanted to give one of the new ones a test drive and see how they compare.

Here's hoping you have zero issues over the long haul.
It would be great to see a positive long term test, and all of the negatives in the past.
 
I would be interested in seeing feedback from more than one person regarding the performance of their newer generation NEA rifles. I have eyeballed and handled them many times only to put it back after recalling the terrible early years of NEA rifles. I would love to see these guys come out from under the cloud they have found themselves under so we can have another Canadian manufacturer begin to shine.

Nice looking rifle. I purchased a 7.5" 7.62x39mm AR about a year ago. I'm happy with it, no issues so far but only 150 rounds down the pipe. Part of that was during a carbine course so there were several mags of rapid fire. I'm hoping the problems with NEA products have been solved.
 
Well the weather finally smartened up for a short time today and I made it out the range for the second time with my new NEA15. With the temperature hovering round +1 Celsius I wanted to get sighted in at 100 yard. I was able to get on paper very quickly, and managed to get about 40 rounds down range before the wind decided to pick up again and put a stop to a nice afternoon of shooting.

The 40 rounds were all pmc 55 gr .223 fmj fed through 10 round MFT pistol mag. Just like the first time out the rifle ran flawlessly. Later this evening I finally got a chance to strip her down and give her another once over. Nothing overly exciting to report again. Everything is exactly as it should be.


So roughly 140 rounds down the barrel and no issues yet.

Looks like a nice rifle.
I am from the Hat also and literally bought the same rifle in the same color to match my 14.5" POF P308 in Burnt Bronze.
I was even looking for the same optic as I liked the larger red reticle in the FFP version.
 
I have a 10.5" in .223 and a 14.5" in 7.62/39 and both run with no problems. Both are more recent models. The 10.5 prolly has around 2K rounds through it. It has only iron sights on it, no optic. I have other higher end like DD and PWS, but still like to take the 10.5" out when I'm in the mood for a little more of a challenge with just irons. I did drop in a Geiselle S3G trigger and it fit perfectly and runs really well.

Off which sponsor did you buy the 14.5" POF P308 in Burnt Bronze? I have been looking for one of those.

mine was described same as this but came with the newest slimmer M-Lok rail.
