So I went to swap my standard trigger this morning for a Trigger Tech and have run into a problem - I can't get the original out

I removed the pins and two parts came away but whats left cannot physically come out as it can't slide forward far enough to let the tail clear the safety switch (tried both positions - no different) or if you slide it back the curve of the trigger catches on the slot its in before it can rotate out

Only way I can see is to remove the safety mechanism (which would deffo let it come out) but I can't see any way to do that (no screws, circlips, springs etc)

Ideas?

You must remove the safety switch by Unscrewing the bolt in the bottom and inside of the grip and slowly pull off the grip and ensure you are very very careful not to loose the safety switch detent spring when removing the handle. Also be very very careful not to lose the detent when swinging the lower receive into the upright position to work on the trigger. Now pull the safety switch out and go at her.

Couple of pics showing the what happens if you try to remove it either way

I got ya - I`ll give that a whirl - thanks

Be careful removing the grip, NEA are a little different and use the grip to hold in a couple springs and detents. I haven't had one apart lately but if I recall correctly it's the safety and rear takedown pin.

Good catch. My Lone NEA lower has the rear take down pin spring and detent at the traditional buffer support area and the newer NEA's have them in the grip mount.

For anyone else attempting this the advice above ^^^^^ is bang on

There are 2 springs and 2 detents as described and you need to be careful when removing as they are inclined to unload and disappear

On a side note I fully recommend the Trigger Tech trigger in this application - light & smooth with a crisp clean break

Is it weird that I've never had to remove the selector to get the trigger out of/into a lower?

Or is the geometry different on NEA lowers?

When taking apart AR15 assemblies that are under spring tension, it's a good idea to do the taking apart inside a large, clear plastic bag. If things jump around during disassembly, they are caught inside the bag and you don't have to worry about loosing the small bits and bobs :p

You shouldn't have to completely remove the grip to get the safety out, just lower it off enough to release the plunger enough to pull the selector switch out.

For anyone who's interested I went to the range today with the Trigger Tech equipped NEA

What a difference - the original trigger was heavy with harsh edges but the Trigger Tech is super sweet - I ran it on the lowest setting and it was very light (you definitely wouldn't need any lighter, particularly in this platform)

Made a noticeable difference to accuracy - the lighter pull resulted in less movement when firing - I was ringing the gong with boring consistency at 100 yards with just a red dot

Getting it at a discounted price from a Canada Ammo sale was the icing on the cake - would recommend for sure
