It seems like hard primers on surplus ammo are too much for these ARs to take. My brand new one is having constant soft strike issues. I contacted NEA and they suggested to bend the hammer spring to stiffen it. While this improved the issue, it did not completely correct it. When I told NEA about the results they just said "well that should have fixed it" with no other followup and troubleshooting suggestions. I read about their poor product and reputation but I still decided to give them a chance thinking that it was exaggerated. I'm starting to doubt that now.

So I guess it's up to me to get a brand new firearm functioning correctly. Aftermarket hammer spring or a longer firing pin? Any ideas on where to get them from? I'll also try filling down the sides of the firing pin tip to concentrate the impact point area. Any other suggestions?

I put an NEA 7.62x29 upper on a Blueline lower and had lots of light primer strikes. I picked up an extra power hammer spring and haven't had a problem since. There's also a fix involving shaving off the end of the firing pin but I didn't go that route.

Where did you pick up the spring from?

like bugout i got the extra power springs (3pak) but ordered direct from wolffe springs..... it is installed on a geisselle s3g trigger and it is awesome, did not affect trigger pull at all.

If you have access to another firing pin maybe check to see if it protrudes further out of the hole or not. Sorry just read your post again .

OP - Contact them again and tell them you want to take advantage of their stellar warranty. It shouldn't be up to you to buy replacement parts for a gun that should work properly in the first place.

Hmmm. I've read and heard their customer service is stellar, trying to pull away from their bolt debacle. This surprises me, I am not far away from purchasing one of their rifles. I'll be following to see how this shakes out.

OP, go the wolff route, I did that and haven't had a light strike in over 5000 rounds. You can send back, but you'll spend more in shipping than you would on the springs.

I had a Timney trigger and had light strikes. Timney sent me an extra power spring and it was fine after that

Thanks for the input gentlemen. No point in paying shipping back if I can fix the issue myself for $20 so I'll just order an aftermarket spring from Brownells. Definitely disappointed in NEA customer service.

While you're at it. Mine as well buy the slightly longer firing pin as this can be a compound problem.

who ever you talked to wasn't to good not them in general... my buddy had the same issue but we live close to the factory so he just dropped it off they fixed it and he picked it back up... so they will fix it for you... and no it wouldnt be worth shipping but if i was you id try to make them pay for it... but the time it might take just buying a spring may be best route... but ive always heard they have good relations with costumers... maybe the guy you talked to just wasn't that good who knows
