NEA AR15 Z-Marked Lowers, $99.95!

What's quality like on these? What color are they? Looks grey in pics.

They are the typical NEA greyish colour, if your thinking of doing a build I strongly recommend the matched upper lower combo. The fit on the sets is (is or are? Grammar lapse) unbelievably good, mine came with ejection cover and forward assist installed.. And the "half price z" is barely noticeable and is blended pretty good into the finish ..

Well I ordered two matched upper and lower Z stamped sets. I hope they come with the dust cover and forward assist like you said yours did.

Destined for a 20" .223 wylde varmint build and a 18" 6.8 SPC match target rifle build.

I'm an AR noob. If I picked up the matched upper and lower, can someone give me a quick inventory of parts I'd need to complete a build, and a rough cost?

Stuff like barrel, grip, trigger group, stock, forearm and magazine I can figure out for myself :) It's the internal components in the receiver I'm not concerned about. Is there something in kit form?

You can't just give a cost on a build because it depends on what brand/quality of parts you use and what kind of AR you want to build. Calibre and barrel length.

Quick parts list and if I miss something let me know and I'll edit it.

Upper receiver
Lower receiver
Barrel
Barrel nut
Gas tube
Gas block
Rail or handguard
Delta ring and spring if using standard handguards
Bolt carrier group (BCG)
Charging handle
Lower parts kit
Buffer tube
Buffer spring
Buffer
Stock

I think that's it.

OK thanks. I have a feeling that this is going to be more expensive than buying a finished gun. Maybe I should save this idea for a later date.

It can be more expensive but depends on how you go about it. I saved about $1000 or more on my last one hole AR build.

One way I look at it is that if you buy a completed rifle then you may end up spending a boat load of money changing things like trigger, rail, grip, stock, heavy buffer. So instead of spending money twice buying a complete rifle and customizing it you spend it once building exactly what you want.

I love the AR platform because its so simple to build yourself and is very addicting doing so. I put together an AR last night from a pile of parts unassembled in about 1.5hrs.

You got it right. The verb "is" refers back to the singular noun "fit", not to the plural "sets".

I may know diddly about guns, especially ARs, but my Grammar is pretty good.

Just finished building my first Ar15 with the matched "z" marked upper and lower set. It is fun, addicting and can be costly but well worth it to build your own. Happy Shooting

OK, back to considering a tinkerer's build as a possibility. :) I suppose I can just buy the matched upper/lower now and accumulate parts over time as I do research into the options available.

Like I said depends on how you go about it. I bought a very large amount of parts from Questar when they had the 20% off sale at Christmas. Can always piece together stuff off the EE but typically people in the EE want the same as retail or close to it so it's not worth it.

The matched Z upper and lower is a screaming deal in my opinion.

There's a 300 Black Out build in the black rifle forum that has been well done and for a very good price.
