NEA Hand guards - redeux

Hand guards we got coming out of the ying yang.I wanta see a ambi safety. Whats the hold up eh?

they are coming, i was unhappy with the first samples and need squeeze them into the floor schedule. I figured you guys would rather have tritium sights for you vz's and m14's.

I am going to use a VZ to shoot you in the god damn head...it is literally impossible to place an order with any VZ parts supplier without discovering in a matter of hours that you have something even cooler on the horizon.

In the end I just had to say, "I don't care what is coming up next...I know the handguards will kick ass and perform the task I require".

Otherwise I'd be waiting forever, because when your quad rail arrives you'll probably announce that you have a quad rail complete with 1-4x24 scope with lenses from Schmidt Bender for three hundred bucks. If I waited for that, you'd come out with a whole new rifle the day after I ordered it. I give up. The handguards should be a mandatory upgrade for anyone running a forward optic.

The M14s are awesome rifles but after LOTS of playing around I feel like the gun is in its absolute best finished form with 1) a fiberglass stock, 2) a barrel chop, and 3) USGI sights. I don't really feel like it benefits from a ton of add-on bits.

The VZ, on the other hand, really turns into a killer carbine with a few changes, plus I can actually afford to run it hard. I don't put even a thousand rounds a year through my M14s anymore...maybe 4-500. My VZ gets fed a crate every couple of months because the ammo is cheap.

I love M14s and I love 7.62 NATO in a way that the VZs will never quite do. But as far as user guns to blast with...I can't get over these things. I am about 3 steps away from having mine set up in what I believe is the final word on VZ pattern rifles...

But it probably won't really be the final word because by the time I finish it, CharlieMart will have something better! Still...at this time I think the NEA/Troy handguards are unbeatable and the price is fantastic.

Edit: after thinking a bit I actually realized that I average only about a crate of ammo per 4 months, if you include the time my rifle was off for treatment. So even if it were here the whole time I only shoot about 400 rounds per month through it, not the 600-700 I was thinking I did.

But still I think the NEA handguards are unbeatable at the moment. I am a huge NEA fan...not that that was any sort of secret.

On the other hand, just for the record, if I ever get an NEA product that sucks, I'll say so. But I really have a hard time imagining that happening. You don't partner up with TROY because you don't know what you're doing...

Hi,I concur with your M14s dissertation.Yes I also jumped on the cz 858 bandwagen after poking you with a stick a couple of times for going over to the Red Zone. Ammo price and availability is a very large factor in the swing over for me.Not much of a parts hanging off of kinda guy. Got a few but I don't want to loose the lightness of the rifle.

I hear you...but one of the great things with the VZ is that you can run it light and tight, with all the go-fast gear.

Here is how I have mine at the moment. I am waiting on a couple of pieces: an offset mount for a G2 LED; an Aimpoint T1 (because although the Eotech is faster for me, I really want to enjoy the cowitness aspect that the NEA mount allows) and a two inch section of rail to mount my Magpul AFG.

But you can see that even with a pile of go-fast parts, this gun is still light and tight - the biggest thing sticking off (other than the mag) is the Eotech! And with a T1 it will be even smaller.

I currently have my stock set for cowitness, which is why it looks a little low with the Eotech. I love that optic but I think I will be forced to sell it to help out with the bill for the T1. But #### is it ever fast!

Now that I got the parts for my NEA upper (thanks Charles) Why is that sparc so great? Remember I'm a noob to foreward mounted optics other then the Tasco red dot (crap) I got from Wally on his Green SKS-D.

They are definitely on my list of "ought to give this a shot" optics...but for my primary rifle (which to my surprise is exactly what the VZ has become) I want one of the serious combat-proven options. Even though odds of ever running my gun for keeps are astronomically small.

But for a secondary rifle that is one of the optics I'm most interest in playing around with, for sure. I hear good things on every aspect EXCEPT most of the guys I know who have run one say they accidentally hit the buttons all the time. For a fun gun this is obviously not a big issue but with an aimpoint, you buy it, turn it on, and replace the battery annually, maybe. IMO that's the ideal HD optic!

A quick question about the handguards:
I have the 3rd Gen NEA Handguard Set, with 2 railed segments. I was trying to mount the segments onto the lower handguard, but it seems that the supplied screws are a tad too short to catch the threading on the plate(?) when placed onto the handguard.
Am I doing something wrong or does anyone else run into this as well?
Thanks for the help.
