Just bought the NEA handguard set and I love them. The only problem is, my Eotech 552 is too long for the mount. Because of this, the front of the eotech rests on the hump of the mount near the gas tube and prevents the sight from sitting flush on the rail. The sight is currently unmountable on the handguard.

Has anyone experienced this? I can post pictures later if that would help. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Ok so no one else will say it. get a different sight or a different upper hand guard. The Eotech is a large sight and will not fit properly.

Or you could get some type of riser that would fit on the hand guard to get the Eotech higher and clear the gas block.

Just seen a new proto type that should be released in under a month. Going to be the cats meow if you know what I men ;)

The 552 will not fit on an NEA gen 4 upper railed hand guard. The 552 has a long battery compartment to accept AA batteries and the front snags on the metal contour left by NEA on the front portion of the rail (it effectively shortens the usuable length of the rail) Either go with a shorter body EoTech such as the XPS series or use a different red dot such as a Burris or Vortex. I'm using a SPARC for the very same reason. Or remove the contour - if you do please post pics

Thanks for all the replies - thanks to NEA's outstanding customer service I was able to mount the optic. A little filing removed all the obstructions to the Eotech's length, and it is sitting perfectly now.

I'll post some pics tomorrow of the setup. The problem is that at some point, Eotech changed the bases on the 512 and 552. The more recent ones have a short rail. The long area under the battery compartment is raised slightly so that obstructions such as sights or a gas block can be cleared. For these newer bases, the NEA rail is not a problem. My Eotech (circa 2006) has the older flat base with continuous rail under the entire device. Look closely at Charles Martel's pic and you will see the raised portion (relative to the eotech rail) sitting on the top of the handguard. This is obviously a newer Eotech.

Mystery of the unattachable attached optics solved. They would have gotten away with it too... if it weren't for you meddling kids.
