Finally some one has made a SL 8 magazine adapter thats worth the $'s.
It has taken a while but the end result was worth the wait.
Well machined and anodized, mags do fall free upon pushing the mag release.
Comes with a detailed instruction sheet for instalation and what to trim to make the AR mags seat fully.
Tolerances are tight at first [from thick anodizing] but well within spec checking a couple of AR mag wells for dimension. I used RRA 10 shot pistol mags at the range and fired off at least 100 rounds with failure of any kind.

What did you have to trim? I thought these were supposed to work without cutting the SL8 reciever. Not that I mind doing a small mod to my SL8, but just wondering. I also niticed you did not need to remove the factoru mag release to install the new magwell. I like that feature also.

I have been meaning to go past target sports, but work has been a ##### lately. :(

I'll post some pics tomorrow. Spent some time shooting today and the mag well conversion worked as planned. The actual mag well was moved back further in the body so it is not nessesary to carve up the innerds of your sl8/g36 to make the mag seat properly. I will post pics by monday. Dealers will have stock next week.

Removal of approximately 1/8" of plastic of the receiver as indicated in the installation instructions. Short work with a sharp wood chisel. Nothing the precludes the reuse of the original mag well and OEM mags.

Magwell installation problems?

Has anyone had trouble getting these to install? I ordered one from Wolverine last month, but I haven't been able to get it to go on. The factory magwell goes on and off as smooth as butter, but the NEA one doesn't seem to want to accept the magwell pin. The pin goes into the magwell fine if I don't have it on the receiver... it seems like the holes in the magwell and the holes in the receiver are just barely out of alignment or something, as when I try to put the magwell on the receiver, I can't get the pin to go in.

Is there a trick to it I'm missing? My magwell didn't come with any instructions, and I haven't found any on the NEA site.

email sales@northeasternarms.com and we will send you the install instructions and if need be talk you through the install via phone call.

Congratulations on a successful install, it seems to serve it's purpose.

Personally, never cared for an aluminum replacement part on a fully synthetic gun. The differences in colour and finish look odd IMHO. Not to mention the fact that one has to "trim" areas to make it fit right.

Does the bolt lock back on an empty mag ?

Yes, even in Germany and Spain on full auto G36's.

Thank you Charles. I was aware that on the stock SL8, the bolt does indeed lock back on an empty mag and have witnessed it numerous times on my own example. Your confirmation of this phenomena, however, is most apreciated in the event that perhaps my own deductions were in error.

My query, specifically pertained to wether the NEA magazine well modification still allowed the bolt to lock back on an empty magazine. Unless I misread your response, I fear my question still stands. Inquisitive minds must know :D

I believe the answer was that it would even (also) lock the bolt on full auto G-36's which are in use in Europe with NEA magwells installed. NEA does quite a lot of business overseas with police and military outfits.

enefgee: Thank you. Your response raises two queries,

1. Sources for for your statement that "NEA does quite a lot of business overseas with police and military outfits" ? I researched but came up with no mention *anywhere* except a lot of chest beating with vauge and oblique references with no solid backup. I would imagine that such a placement would be touted extensively and publicly by any company as it is a matter of pride and accomplishment. In short, I suspect it but would welcome the opportunity to be factually proven wrong!

2. Your statement implies that there are a s**t ton of NEA magwells in use in Europe. Funny, as I have never seen *a single one* in my travels (and I make it a point to keep abreast of most small arm developments). From my exposure, the German Army is not using them (at-least not in any sizeable numbers to be noticed). Doesn't mean that they are not in use, and I would like to give the benefit of the doubt in the absence of facts, but certianly they no where as prevalent as NEA would like us to believe. Again, I request credible sources for this information.

Sorry, not beating on you. Just raising my observations regarding a few inconsistencies I noticed.
