NEA or Core 15?

Ill echo what Ive been saying lately.

If not NEA, then pay a few bucks more and get the Spike's ST-15 from Questar.

CORE, I cannot offer anything on them.

Spike's is proven, is rock solid, and their prices right now are awesome.

Or alternately, get an Aero Precision since the entry-level Spikes are just re-badged APs that have been marked up another 25% for the spider logo on the side...:roll eyes:

FWIW, I do like the AP guns - to include the Spikes. My comments are not meant to belittle the product - it's a good gun.

PS: I wish Questar still brought in CMMG since I liked them even better than the AP or Spikes at this price point. They also offered nice chrome-lined 1:7 barrels in all standard lengths and a higher degree of fit and finish.

where have you found CORES in stock? I know wanstalls is out of stock of the base DI model, however they do have the more expensive MOE versions.. If you know a place to get em, please let me know. I am looking to buy my first AR as well

Let's be honest, there's a reason I went with a spikes. I've run spikes guns hard before without any problems, and I have lots of friends stateside who run them hard. No problems to date from them.

As a first time user I would suggest the OP do a lot of research into the brands he mentioned and make an informed decision. There's a reason I went the route I did.....

Not everyone gets LE or dealer pricing through Brownells (or has any spare parts lying around), so since we're talking the "average joe" here I tend to err on the side of caution with respect to costs. While it's true that most LPK's do have a pistol grip, it's the type more relegated to a doorstop than an AR15. Ditto for the stock. Don't get me wrong, it will do the job - but the first thing almost everyone upgrades is the grip and stock...

I indicated "minor", because NEA seems to stand solidly behind their product. If they didn't, it would be a Gong Show... I will admit that the NEA may not be for the first-time AR15 shooter (due to familiarity, at least until NEA works out all the 'kinks'...) - but in terms of overall value, the barrel is worth the price of admission alone.

True. True.

I thought they were made by......crap.....company begins with an "S".

I really like my CORE15 MOE DI. Gary from Wanstalls is amazing and I think they are getting them ASAP, but the demand is very high. Also, even though it is a US made rifle the warranty department is in Canada. Never shot the NEA, but I was not interested in a railed forend to start with. Never had much use for lights and lasers at a range that does not allow shooting outside daylight hours. The CORE MOE has a clean KISS look to it.

Calgary shooting centre has a couple in stock.

CORE sticks to mil spec or above.
I am still looking at my 2nd AR. $699 get you a Norc. +$400 get you a CORE, Add another $400 get you a DD M4, $500 more get you a LMT MRP... So I will get the least expensive or... still could not decide.....

I have an NEA, chose between that a core 15 and a spikes, it was the cheapest one out of the lot, and had way more features and the barrel is definitely better then other entry level priced guns. not to mention NEA doesnt charge out the ass just because you want a short barreled rifle.

at just past 1k rounds through it, and lord knows how much .22 lr i put through it, the only maintenance I have have to use an allen key on it once to tighten a glas block screw after I burnt off the lock tight with some rapid fire strings.

this gun is higher then entry level standards, with a lower price.

and a griffin and ### on the lower never hurt :D

Tell me more about what it takes to put lord knows how much 22lr through it? What parts and how much?

I am new to AR's but not to guns, with some great service from the boys at TSE my NEA is more fun than a guy should be allowed to have. With a cheap Vortex and some Magpul bling I am probably in for $1500+. I am worth it. Spent $400+ on ammo already as well. Not a cheap thrill but again I am worth it!

you can buy a cmmg (just what I got there are other brands) .22 lr conversion kit it consists of a drop in insert you use instead of the normal bolt carrier group, you also need different magazines,

I got mine from questar.

the drop in insert was about 250$ ish for me when I bought it a while back with one 28 rnd .22lr mag, and you can get 50rnd ones since its rimfire. you will go through .22 like mad, but its soo cheap... .22 is great for cheap practice.

I Would also highly recommend the CMMG kit for cheap plinking. I just picked my up from arms east (questar also has the same kit) and it came with the forward assist insert, bolt hold open adapter, .22 anti-jam charging handle and the new 25 round Evo mag (which looks sweet).

You can use the stk charging handle. Some kits come with a Anti-jam handle, but I haven't noticed any difference in my experience. I believe they made those charging for the kits so you wouldn't get rounds stuck vertically in the chamber, which was happening because of the steep angle the .22 would come out of the mags (with some manufacturers). That's just what I've gathered from searching the good ol' interweb :D

By stk I assume you mean stock? This AR learning curve has introduced me to all kinds of acronyms of which I had no idea what they meant! Can't even buy bling without some MBUS or MOE etc. I will admit I have no idea of what some of them mean!

By the ways thanks shields and easy sauce for your assistance! I would like to shoot this gun more but the Minister of Warfare and Munnitions has been scrutinizing my spending and unlike the government she isn't that fond of running a deficient

Yup I did mean stock when I said stk :). There is definitely a steep learning curve when it comes to the ar and the lingo. I'm still relatively new with them myself so if you run into anything PM me and Ill glady help if i can. Browsing the black rifle forums and various YouTube videos and you'll be up to speed in no time :p.

A 22 kit will help to reduce the deficit (in the long run) you were concerned about :D
