NEA Upper & Norinco Lower fit issues

Hi Guys,

As title implies, I'm having some troubles fitting a NEA upper to a Norinco lower. Problem seems to be that the front and rear take down might not quite align, with the NEA Upper looking like it has the pin holes a little further to the front and and a VERY tight (too tight) fit between lower and upper. While it does fit, it's a hammer and punch kind of deal.

Not a knock against NEA, the upper seems beautifully made, I'm looking more at the Norc as the likely culprit.

That being said... Is this a known issue? Anybody else experience this?

Not a huge deal as I'll eventually be giving it its own lower (bought the NEA unit as an additional upper), but curious none the less.

Thanks
Eric

I have a Spikes lower with a Norc 10.5 upper, they line up great but take down pin is very tight. I have noticed that I can now remove it by hand, just took a while. Better a little tight than too loose........(that's what she said) Lol!

There comes a time when a man just needs to buy himself some new, stress free kit. Nothing but heart ache for a man when his kit is sub par. Yes its an expensive hobby but when you realize the happiness that comes from not being pissed off at your norc not fitting a....NEA. You will thank me and prob name your next child Nasty.

If you put a ff rail on an NEA upper, it won't fit most lowers.... Different front end dimensions allow the ff tube to sit back too far which causes it to hit the lower so the pins don't line up. There is a reason things are built to spec, then there is NEA lol

I'm actually the opposite of the OP.

NEA Lower that won't accept either a Vltor Muir 1A or an Aero Precision Upper. Neither one will drop in, requiring more force to seat then I dare to attempt.

Knowing both Uppers are of Mil Spec tolerances & drop in quite nicely/just snug to my Noveske. It looks like I'll be taking some emery cloth to the inside of the NEA Lower and loosen it up a bit by removing some of the NEA anodization which may or may-not be the culprit. Given the OP is trying the opposite & Norcs are well know to have loose tolerances, kind of makes you wonder about NEA's anodization process/thicknesses. I was aware of the history from NEA users here on CGN, so it's not a big concern on my end (no diff then tuning 1911 parts to fit per say).

As others have stated, to some degree you get what you pay for, but there's nothing wrong with either an Upper or Lower from NEA for their price point. End users just need to accept that "some assembly may be required" when purchasing them.

Cheers

So norinco Asia and norinco Canada don't make compatible parts? Who knew!!

I have an Olympics Arms rifle that the upper and lower had to be disassembled with a hammer and punch. Made in the USA and incompatible with itself!! Who knew!

I lived with it for a number of years, then had the opportunity to fit the upper and lower to a several other lowers and uppers of different makes, including some mil surplus Colts. This made it clear that the upper was the problem, and that was the part I fixed. I would recommend not altering anything until you can positively identify which one is off.

This is the best advice one can give! I'm in the market to just drop my "Frankenstein gun" and just buy a god am DD already. Get it right from the pros, don't Lego together a gun and expect it to be the end all be all unless you are a gunsmith lol. In which case I bet you would still start with a complete rifle anyway

Notice I said "norinco Canada" not "norinco north America"? Sgw/Olympic is bottom of the barrel garbage and is another brand to avoid.

I've owned / shot both extensively, and have no issues with either Norc or my NEA...what is your opinion based on?

Hahahahahaha. You're kidding right? Search the forum here, there's endless threads about both brands and their garbage products not running right. Add in nea's schilling for good measure.

NEA BCG I bought, bolt blew up on the 3 round...
NEA stripped upper I bought, dust cover was cut incorrect, and with ff tube would not fit on any of my milspec lowers due to being out of spec on the front.
JUST bought an NEA barrel because I heard they were the one solid item they have and the ####ing crown is crooked as hell, I'll have to recrown it.
I honestly think people have no idea what quality is, they want cheap ugly #### that works. ####ing NEA are aerospace engineers, you think they could follow directions to make an "in spec" product, or at least make sure #### is squared up.
Nork is just a sad version of an AR15. Fit and finish of those are not representative of the platform.

Curious how many SGWs have you owned?

As my 11.5" 5.56 has functioned flawlessly since I bought in 1990 and shoots just accurately as many of my friend's Colts.

After 20 or so years and thousands of rounds what should I be looking for?
