Today i came home from work with a lovely surprise. This is the much anticipated NEA 102. I have taken apart 80% of the rifle and took pictures for people who had questions. The only part i didnt take off yet is the barrel....i know i know most of you here want to know if the barrel is interchangeable with the AR108/110 etc. However! i will be removing it when i receive the proper tools to do so (BROWNELLS - 308 AR BARREL EXTENSION TORQUE TOOLS). But without further delay see below the pictures.

Also, I am not a English teacher, or pretend to be good at English. So please be nice!

This is the aesthetically appealing, securely wrapped package was waiting for me to tear into her and reveal what was underneath.

When i opened her up i was pleasantly surprised to see her wrapped in a cloth hunting bag for protection. Also included in the box is the IMI 20rnd Mag , Sticker of a forum not to be named (Not pictured) and the RCMP FRT Report. Thanks for the FRT Printout i'm going to be making copies of this for all my bags because....you never know. The Mag seems to be very good quality and i will probably be purchasing a lot more of these if everything turns out to work good.

HERE SHE IS!!!!!!! Finally the box comes off! and here she is in all her oily glory!! My first impressions of this......WOW! i am very very impressed. I cannot believe i finally after so much waiting she is finally here. The fit on the upper/lower is supper tight! The only gripe i have so far with this is the charging handle seems a bit small, However i will get that fixed and install a raptor charging handle. Next i will be looking at the lower receiver.

Alright, On to the good stuff. So far everything seems to be supersized AR style. I will be showing the Lower first, stripped and bare for all to see!

The 102 came with a very nice ambi safety made of metal, it does not feel cheap and has very good actuation, however it is missing not notable click.

Next up is the buffer tube...now.. i didn't want to take this off and test another as it was so nicely staked. I will remove this when i need to change out the buffer tube and stock. Here is the picture of the stake job for reference in case you are looking at purchasing. Also, important to note the tube is a purplish colour due to the anodizing process.

Up next we have the trigger group and pins for the safety and take down pin, this looks very promising as it may be compatible with other AR10 triggers. This will really help as the current trigger in the 102 is very gritty and mil-spec like. This is not a complaint as most triggers for this application are typically like this. Don't get me wrong! for what it is, its very good. its defiantly not a norinco!

Now, lets get to the bolt! This has very much been a topic for controversy and no one still knows if we can interchange them with AR10/108 bolts. I will use my micrometer and calipers some time this week to measure everything against a AR10 bolt drawing. Would also like to get an extra extractor just in case. Now, below are some money shots! I'm not sure if the firing pin on the AR10 usually have springs however this is a very good idea and should stop any slam fire. The bolt looks like it has some residue from factory test fire, looks like Barnaul or MFS with a red sealant.

Ok guys, now like i said, i was unable to take the barrel off. So here are some pictures of the barrel and nut. Its too bad that i was unable to take off the barrel nut because as everyone wants to know what its compatible with. As you can see the gas block picture there is definitely some chatter marks on the barrel it looks like this was done before the nitrite process which for me is not a big deal. This is something i'm not going to worry about because if it turns out we can swap barrels, i will most likely swap it out with a target medium barrel. The last picture is when i took off the gas block, you can see by the gas residue the gas block hole is much bigger than the port, this will allow better flow and probably better reliability.

*Update - Glas block size needed is a .875*

In the end, this is probably going to be my favorite non restricted rifle. Its much cheaper than the other options out there for a semi 308. I will be doing my best to make this a very accurate rifle, i feel this platform has a lot of potential.

Good luck and happy shooting!

Congratulations!

Looking forward to your range reports & what ammunition works best in your rifle!

Cheers
Jay

are you talking about the Bolt? There is NO rust on the bolt just very oily with dirty, only "Rust" is on the barrel nut, and it came off with a rag.
I meant the barrel nut, yes. The bolt (and a few other parts) look "rusty" - but this could just as easily be a lot of dirty oil or the picture itself. You should post "after" pictures after you've finished polishing and cleaning it up!

Ya, It seems like the finish in general is very uneven/light, i would buy a 308 BCG if they weren't $400 to swap it. but i will stick it in the ultrasonic soon and get her all pretty!

How about a measurement of the buffer tube outside diameter? Just wondering what stock options can be swapped over and will fit correctly.
Pretty rough machining but looks good.

Are you just going to replace the trigger or have you considered polishing up the original and seeing if it improves enough to be acceptable for long term use?

Buffer tube is MILSPEC, as other have put Milspec butt stocks on already

As it is true this is a milspec stock, if anyone has tried to change the carbine length to the rifle length tube, do you know if the normal buffer will work?

Also, i measured the gas block and you need a .875 gas block to work.

And i have no intention of upgrading my trigger yet.

Can you tell me the length of the buffer tube? I'll check it against my A2 stock buffer tube.
I found and ordered an AR-10 carbine buffer and spring that will hopefully allow me to run my ubr

Nope it won't. . There is a specific rifle length spring and buffer for the AR10 with them being different for the carbine vs rifle buffer tube. Because of this they need different springs/buffers.

Armalite AR10 Carbine buffer tube is: 7-5/8″

Rifle buffer tube is: 9-11/16"
