I am finally starting to build my first AR from one of two NEA15 lowers I picked up 3 yrs ago on sale.

however looking at them both they are different slightly.

One has a serial ending in D and it has an extra threaded hole under the grip as well as the hole for the take down detent is under the grip instead of behind the buffer tube retainer plate.

What is the purpose of the difference? Should I build the more "standard" one or this "D" model.

I'm new to this whole thing so hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me.

Here's pictures of the two side

Build either or better yet build both! I don’t know the reason why they located the take down pin retainer hole in a different area but they both do the same thing, take the same parts, and function fine.

Their CCS stock would work with either as it has a block that holds the rear takedown detent in that the shorter receiver extension goes through. The one with a bottom detent hole you could use with a stock that doesn’t utilize an endplate like some models of the Battle Arms Sabertube. Also the one on the left you have looks like it is threaded for a receiver tensioning screw.
