Hi Guys,
I am wondering if anyone has dealt with NEAR Manufacturing in western Canada? According to their website, they manufacture high quality scope bases and rings.

I recenty purchased a new rifle and decided to go for a quality scope mount.

I had a couple emails with Richard Near on their products and decided to buy a scope base from him. Three weeks ago I faxed an order to him. After two weeks of hearing nothing, I emailed to see if my fax had arrived. I have no response from that email.

I assume that NEAR Manufacting is a small shop and that Richard may be on vacation/ hunting/ competition somewhere.

I am not in a panic to get the scope mount. I only hope to play with my new toy before the snow flies. A confirmation of "order received" would make me happy.

I will call next week if nothing has happened.

Any comment?

Regards !!!!!

Bill

I don't have any firsthand experience with dealing with NEAR , however have seen them on a few rifles and their products are top notch. If I were you I'd just give them a call during business hours.

I bought one of his brakes. I did phone him and he said they were being built and were not ready, but he would call me when they were. I waited three weeks and was ready to buy a sako brake instead but then I got the call. It was worth the wait. He is an excellent machinst. I think I sent him an email to wonder how it was coming at the 2nd week and never got a reply. Try phoning him and leaving a message. I am sure he will get back to you.

I have dealt with him and would do it again. Great service. I called him didn't email we talked for close to 2 hours (over a couple of days) on all my requirements and what i was looking for and what he suggested. took approx two weeks once my order was in to receive the rail.

I have several [6 bases to exact]NEAR manufacturing Bases order on Monday and recieve it Tuesday now thats service for the most part it is next day service in Alberta .Near MFG Products are top shelf, Quaility and fit and finnsh is second to none ,However with that kind of quailty comes the High Price.
If you are budget conscience looking for a Very Good Base Ken Farrel makes a great product how ever if you want the best on the market NEAR Mfg is the one

I purchased 2 bases over the past 3 years, Richard is a great guy to deal with, he takes to time to find out what you are mounting and on what gun to make sure you get you what you need (proper bell clearances and proper MOA the base). Give him a call he will set you up ASAP!

I tried to buy from Richard. He didn't seem to want/need my business. I called Ken Farrell and he was much more personable and accommodating. I'd rather have a sore backside than deal with Richard Near again.

Thanks

Thanks for the comments.

I will telephone Richard later this week to see what is happening.

I have seen a number of good reports regarding the quality of his work. There is no question that he does a good job.

I need a base and a set of rings. I decided that I would order a base first and see how the quality/ workmanship is. If it is good, I would follow up with an order for the rings.

The base and rings will be far better than the rifle I intend to put it on. However rifles change and get improved over time. I think it better to spend a bit extra on bases and rings from the start.

Thanks again for the reassurance.

Best regards !!!!!

I am dealing with Near Manufacturing now also am A distributor for them in my own area. They are the best mount/ring system out there The one I would recommend and am also using now are the Alpha mounts which are 3-5X stronger than any other ring set-up out there. If you want to I will post some pics of my set-up later this week and if you like it we can talk about getting you into this nice set-up. Any other questions about these products just drop me A line or post.

I have multiple near bases and rings on my rifles. I have bases for Weatherby, remington and a custom Sauer 202. I also have a few Farrell bases; they are not built even close to the quality and tolerances of Near products. You get what you pay for. The machine work is second to none. There is a reason many of his products are are at work for us overseas.

Here is mine from Richard, Canadian made, not imported like a lot of other stuff, enjoy
