Today was the first day of the controlled shotgun hunt in Ontario, In the last 3 years of hunting I have only shot at one buck (with my cross-bow...he came out 10 feet from me, and I shot over top) and only seen 2 other deer. As expected during Coyote hunting I see lots of deer and no coyote's. Jeff has a new gunsmithing business (Grizzly Gunworks)and he is so busy with jobs for other hunters it looked like we would not get a chance to get out together.
But today it all came together. We had been set up for less than 30 minutes when 3 bucks came walking right up to us. We had only 2 tags, so we took the best of the 3. We recoverd the 400gn winchester slug from the larger of the two. It entered thru the left shoulder, and cut across the top of the heart, essentially detaching it from the Aorta. He went 10 yards and dropped. The slug went thru the chest wall on the other side and stopped under the hide. They were both about 60 yards out in the field.
And yes dinner was good
