Hello all!

My RPAL coming soon! Expecting my plastic next week. So that means hitting a store(s) during the weekend. I'm looking for a Russain SKS in particular or another type for a good price. Preferably non-painted bolt. Laminated ideally but solid wood stock is fine.

Where's the closest store(s) I can go that carries these goodies?

TIA!

Cool, I just emailed them.

I wouldn't mind driving 1+ hrs. I may just go to Epps and visit all the stores around there. Someone mapped out all the stores on google maps. I lost the link and I can't find it anymore. :-(

Thanks

If you dont mind driving, Epps would be a great trip, maybe plan on getting more than just an SKS though, I can never leave there without dropping a couple bills.

Epps is the definite choice. I bought mine there last week and they should have a couple in stock...just check their website, call them with the item number and make the trek up there because it is worth it. And when you get there buy a crate of ammo to go with your new baby killer. Cheers.

Hmm... Looks like I may need to trek up to Epps next weekend. I didn't see any on their website

I know they're selling the Norinco M4. It would be great to check it out. So tempted to buy one online but I have to see it first. LOL!

Cosmo, how much was the SKS? And how about ammo and brand?

Notice they're selling Norinco M213. I guess I'll look at what I missed out on for $99 (which is now $179 at Epps). I did order two before it officially went OOS but they messed up my order. :-(.

Thanks all!

If you don't mind ordering online, Frontier (Saskatchewan) has great service. I got mine from there, I asked them to pick a nice one out, so they did, and with a silver bolt at no extra charge (I ordered a black bolt).

As for ammo, if you want quantity, you can not go wrong with a 1120 round crate of Czech surplus. Usually goes for around $200 a case and is pretty decent stuff, not competition grade, but good enough for plinking, but is corrosive. Just use a regular solvent to looses up the carbon and flush the entire rifle (not the stock) with HOT water to dissolve the corrosive salts. Do not worry, the water will evaporate rather quickly if its hot, just wipe it down to get ost of the water off.

And There is no cosmo in the Russian rifles, only on the Chinese ones. They usually come covered with a thick oil. To clean it out, look under Blackthorns sticky. There is a link to a step by step dissassembly/ Reassembly guide for the SKS. I used Kerosene to clean, wipe the wood and barrel/receiver and soak the smaller bits. Then just wipe, and put her back together.

Cool!

No, I won't mind ordering online. It sounds even more easier but I doubt Epps can clear the non-restricted on the same day, especially on a Saturday!?!? Either I get them to mail my pickings to me or pick it up later which I'm considering not to b/c gas would cost as much as shipping I suppose. Then there's time on the road and wear on car and who knows I may end up spending more bucks when I got back to pick up my goodies. LOL!

Especially for the price of a Russian SKS, online ordering no problem but I do want to see it first. In the meantime, excited to go shopping too.

So much stuff to learn.

Just came back from the Ancaster Gun Show (outside of Hamilton). The place was littered with Russian SKS's. Guy had a table of probably 25, $225 for solid birch stocks, and $245 for laminate. Various years, all painted metal, mags pinned through the bottom. There were some others as high as $325 but they were all about the same so they were just being optimists.

x2 on Frontier though. Marlin is a great guy to deal with. I bought both off mine from him.

Nearest to Toronto....williams Arms at Port Perry. Black bolt but actually nice looking and I bet nice shooters. However, they want $275 for each. A bit above the west cost dealers.

epps is the way to go. the price tag on my Siminov 1953 all matching numbers black bolt was $254 but i only paid $101 since i traded in my Norinco for $175. pick up a crate of x39 to go with it and blast the s**t out of it, you won't even make a dent in the crate after one day.

Cool!

How much does a crate of this stuff go for over there? The amount is 1120 per crate, correct?

Yes sir...its $179 not including the taxes...with taxes i think it came out to $205 and change. It is totally worth the price. That much ammo for such a deadly round you can't beat the value, practicality and overall fun you will have. Even if you send 200+ rounds every outing it will last you the better part of the year.

Just make sure you clean that Ruski asap. Don't want it to get all rusty and custy cause of the corrosiveness that is the surplus Czech ammo.

My way of cleaning goes: 1. windex all metal parts 2. pour boiling water on all metal parts 3. solvent all metal parts 4. oil all moving parts except for the gas tube.

That should prevent any type of rusting or pitting.

Enjoy it good sir, and remember to deploy that bayonet while shooting! the goal is to scare as many hippies as possible, just make sure they don't take it up with the government.
