Neat find: Hornady stamped brass in Winchester bag

I grabbed a new, unopened bag of virgin Winchester .45-70 brass two weeks ago from a retailer in town and set to reloading them today.

I break the seal and set them into my loading blocks when I notice 2 of these things are not like the others.

Surprise, two of the brass are Hornady head stamped.

Not earth shattering, but I thought it interesting to find. Am curious if it was just an end of run switch over oops or what happened.
 
Check the length on them. If Winchester made them for the Hornady LeverEvolution they may be slightly shorter.

Nowadays, you're lucky if the shoulders aren't creased or cracked. Most often the case mouths are 'egged' and look like they've been gnawed off by rats.

I've long suspected the WW & R/P reloading supplies get all the reject brass from the factory-ammo production line.
 
I once had a Hornady 150 grain spire point 150 grain bullet for the .303 british in with a box of otherwise identical .308 bullets. I only found the bullet was the wrong size when it stuck in my seating die. I wrote Hornady, their response was basically that since they make so many bullets there is sure to be some mistakes!

I'm sure they could add some quality control on the production line and increase the cost of their other-wise inexpensive bullets.......;)

Not that unusual, Dominion Cartridge Co. used to make brass for pretty much everyone.

Old DCCo catalogues often had notations along the lines of: "Because of the low demand for this cartridge we import them from Eley"

I've seen an Eley overlabled DCCo. box, and an RWS box also...
