Neat rock pic

While out trudging around in my favorite hunting spot on Friday, I took this pick of a neat rock. I would imagine there have been several generations of "hunters" have noticed this. My grandfather and his father-in-law settled initially just west of here about a mile in 1883 or 1884. I wonder if they maybe took a break here as well?

Beautiful rock. I suppose left over from when the last ice age glacier retreated. I sure hope it remains in place, for future generations to see.

Glad I'm not the only hunter who gets sidetracked by rocks.........I wonder how much game has passed by because I'm sqattin' picking through rocks/dirt ?

Thank goodness for the local butcher ! ha ha

Yeas, there is a bit of a depression all around it. Over the years since the buffalo disappeared, the dirt may have gradually moved back in to fill the low spot.

I do Know where there is a for sure buffalo rub, although I haven't been to it for 20 years or more. It is not too far from my cabin, which is only four or five miles (yes, miles!) from where the rock in the picture is. The "real" rub is sort of in between. Now look what you've done - I'll have to go and get some pics of that too!!:p

I have more than once stopped and looked at the buffalo rubbed rock, on our way across Saskatchewan. I have pictures and will post one, if I find them.
I think that rock should be considered a historic site, when one considers how many animals it took, over how long, to wear those ruts in it.

That's right. The dinasaurs did it.
I think the most spectacular country in Saskatchewan is the high hills and ridges, formed by the last big glacier as it retreated. (Damn, there we go again. How could it have retreated without the greenhouse gas we make?)
This area is north west of Nipawin and known as the Narrow Hills. The original road to Fishing Lakes ran right over the highest ridge and in places two vehicles couldn't meet.
I was barely a teenager when I was first over that old trail.

I imagine this is the rock you referred to, Kjohn.
It is big and especially in places, wore smooth by the buffalo.
Still has a decided rut wore in the ground around it.
The road is a turn out from the highway to see it.
