Neck Flaring Advice

So I got some cast bullets to try in my 30-06.

I've never loaded cast in the '06 before but I've read that it's important to flare the neck a bit in order to prevent shaving lead from the bullet while seating it.

Makes sense to me.

I don't have a neck flaring tool so I made one with a grinder that I use with a hammer.

I want to make sure that I'm flaring the neck enough before I proceed because I only have ten bullets and I don't want to waste one.

I can grind it more to increase the flare but I think I might have enough now.

I'm attaching a photo and my question for those in the know is this: Is this enough flare or should I increase it a bit?

I expand neck mouth only enough for 1/2 or whole GC to go into case with just fingers.

Most of the time flair is barely noticeable and I usually do it just before loading of a case-prevents double flair.
 
15.00 Lee universal flaring die will work on all cal from .22 to .50

Press mounted, this die will give you the correct angle of flare for cast and works well.

You just want enough flare to ensure you don't shave any lead off when seating , that's all.

The flare you put on that case the seating die likely won't be able to straighten it out to give a uniform crimp.

Nice job of flaring! I'll give you that , the tool you made works good, just to good.
 
With that flare you got going there, you can just use a shovel to dump the powder. lol I'm hoping this is an April 1 joke. If not, then WAY too much flare.

Sorry to those who thought I was serious, but this was all about April 1st.

APRIL FOOL everybody!

I was just feeling a bit silly this morning.

(One 30-06 case was harmed in the making of this thread.)

I stared reading the text and when I scrolled down to the picture I almost fell off my chair laughing. Nice work especially since there was enough text to not see the pic right away. That is one blunderbuss of a case.
