Neck sizing problem

I reloaded some 22-250 shells and ran into some neck sizing differences.
I reload for both of my savage rifles,one is a 16 series the other an axis.
There is a 5 thousaths difference in neck size on some shells.
The axis jams with some shells yet the 16 series doesnt.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you neck size do you sort your cases so that you know which rifle they were fired in? You are only neck sizing the chamber in one may be larger than the other and thus won't fit in the other rifle. If they are not sorted by rifle, full length resize and start over. This time keeping the cases seperated for each rifle.
 
Once had two 6mm Remingtons. The Remington had a tight chamber and the Ruger was not. Shells loaded for the Remington would not always fire in the Ruger, and shell fired in the Ruger would not chamber in the Remington. If you are seeing .005 difference then times two on keeping brass for each rifle separate. Your option now would be to full length resize any that you question which rifle they were fired in.
 
What type of die are you neck sizing with ? If you are neck sizing with a standard neck die (versus a bushing type die) it is quite possible that the neck is sized enough to fit the chamber but the shoulder of one case is farther forward than the other because of a difference in head space from one rifle to the other.
 
Wow now you guys have me really confused jk.
I wasnt aware that rifles were picky on ammo.
Without getting to technical i cant believe there is that much variance in chamber size from one rifle to the next.
Wouldnt it be an industry standard for chambers to be within certain tolerances?
Im using lee pacesetter dies to load and resize.
 
Yes, there are "industry standards", but those will have a certain amount of tolerance - and each rifle will have a different amount life to it as well. Factory Ammo will be made to the smallest standard, and will "fire form" itself to each chamber.

The 0.005 difference in diameter probably isn't your problem so much as the difference in length to the neck is, and possibly any case swelling towards the base. Shells are not straight, so that taper is now stretched on one, meaning in the other gun, the taper of the body of that shell will "bottom out" before the shell is where it should be.

Yes it will cause the bolt to be difficult if not impossible to close. As already stated, full length resize all your brass and keep them identified as to which rifle they were fired in. then you can neck size them the next time around.
