Just a question for the experienced minds of CGN. When using a FL die to neck size only, how far down the case is good enough?? I've played around a bit, and found with the ram up, I turn the die til just touching, and back off 1/4 turn. This won't touch the shoulder (9.3x62mm cartridge) when sizing, as its noticeable where the sizing stops....to eyeball it 1/2 millimeter + or - from the shoulder.

What effect does this have if any?? They chamber fine in the rifle as is. If I sized only half way down the neck, would God kill a kitten?? If they chamber is it good to go??:redface:Thanks in advance.

No problems - carry on. You can do a trial where you start with the die fairly far out ie a dime's space between die and shell holder. Size a case, check for fit in chamber. adjust die, in or out until brass chambers with little to no intereference.
The only thing you have to watch for is once fired brass from another rifle - it may not respond to these sizing ministrations.

Sounds exactly what I do. I try and get most of the neck, but avoid touching the shoulder. So long as you don't get any that are too stiff to chamber, you're golden. So long as you size enough to get neck tension to hold the bullet, that's all the minimum required.

You can use a Sharpie to color your neck (or you can smoke the neck) and then run it into the die and see how far down the neck you are sizing and adjust as necessary.

When I did it, I started from not touching the neck and worked my way down the neck to where I wanted it.
