looking for ideas and possible cause, just pulled 100 rounds of 223 because the case was too long and did not chamber correctly, during sizing I saw 1 in 4 split at the neck, these are not fired rounds I just pulled the projectile and tried to resize, anyone else have this issue?

can not figure the picture posting detail or I would put a few pictures up, maybe help in this area also is appreciated

thanks

How old is this brass you are working with, do you know it's history?

I have seen very old brass that has not been work hardened become hard and brittle with age...There will be doubters but I have seen it...Anneal necks and it will be good to go.

brass is previously fired, have no history, brass is marked 223 REM with IVI or IAI opposite, it looks good after pulling the projectile, no visible signs of a split, during sizing you can feel the fracture as the swaging die expands the case mouth, they are splitting from the mouth to the shoulder

have to figure the picture thing out

yes using lube inside neck and body, not sure its worth annealing as I have lots of different brass that did not split, just trying to salvage some materials

Nah mate, FB pic attachments don't work. You need to sign up for a image sharing site like Photobucket, Flickr etc.

If you got lots of other brass, just toss the ones that split into the recycle bin.

223 brass if it has been fired several times it is not worth the time to aneal ----> toss in recycle brass bucket

I have noticed some new brass is split on first firing that lot (that is not split ) is worth anealing for future long life

imgur no sign up needed

if your cases are splitting, you need to anneal.
