Neck Turning Lubricant

What type of equipment is used for neck turning anyways?

I use K&M tools myself.

I don't use the handle, I chuck the shellholder into my cordless drill.

Sinclair also has several neck turning tools available from budget minded right up to more than I care to spend.

There will be more than .0001” change from shooting and sizeing. Even if you are hitting that elusive one tenth of a thou tolerance it is spoiled after the first shot. All I am saying is I find hitting a tenth very hard to believe.

I don't know why the neck thickness would change after shooting / sizing (except as the 'donut' creeps up), and in any event I've measured cases after a few cycles and the thickness is the same.

Hitting a tenth is "hard" in the sense that one needs good brass, good tooling, and good technique (including good lube :D ). It's doable (imperfectly as I've already acknowledged - there is some measurable variance, at least when I turn). Hang out at snipershide.com or benchrest.com and find others doing the same.

I use Balistol for neck turning and for re-sizing. It dries without residue and works like a charm. I will bring a can with me on Sunday.

I would try motor mica for neck turning. I would not use any petroleum products in the case unless you want to spend time degreasing cases. Another lube that can be used is the Lee lube in the tube that is also not petroleum based, as far as I know. I don't lube my necks on my trimmer.
