Neck Turning, Reaming.

So I need to thin the necks on some straight wall cases. Can I outside turn them instead if inside ream them, or will that cause me grief?
Reason I ask is that I have the setup for neck turning, not so for reaming.
 
Well I just tried, discovered that the pilot hole on my Sinclair neck turning outfit is too small for the diameter of the cases I need to turn. Most that I will be able to turn is about 1/4" and I need to go about 1/2", back to the drawing board. Anybody have any suggestions cause the fun is starting to disappear.
