Need 410Ga Steel Shot 2 3/4" - Where???

It's a Spanish gun ... El Faisan. I know my uncle has been only shooting 2 3/4" out of the gun for years. When he got the gun, the old timer gave him some shells that were 2 3/4" also BUT I know I should make sure. I was told the 70 on the gun meant it can shoot 2 3/4" . I would like to think that they would be smart enough to stamp what you can shoot.

the most common .410 is 2 1/2" only 2 3/4" I've ever seen was the Russian steel case stuff meant to be fired in 3" chambers. really pick up a 12ga or 20ga and take that dove hunting you will only damage that old gun by shooting steel out of it.

only other option would be to go to ballistic products get the .410 non toxic wads and the loading manual for small bore and follow the data to the t hull wad powder and primer have to be what they say for that load id load itx or bismuth but again best bet a modern 12ga or 20ga

I have 12G and 20G to shoot with, I just really enjoy shooting the .410 BUT it's obviously impossible to find steel shot for this gun and I don't want to damage the gun either. So...it will be strictly a gun for the kids to have fun with at the farm and for grouse walking on the trails.

sparrows and starlings are always fun to shoot with the little .410 pest control and small game is what I use it for

Only sharing what I have seen over the years and seen the 70mm both ways as I said. I have been shooting the 410 and reloading it since the 60's 1000's and 1000's of rounds and only ever seen one box of 410 2 3/4" in Canada and it was buck shot so have no idea where the old timer got his . It is your hands and face at risk, me I would take 5 minutes and check to be sure
Blasted saber told you how to do this on the ontario out of doors forum and there you said your uncle gave you 2 1/2" shells????? which makes more sense to me. With a 1952 production date I for one would not be putting any steel through it with today's camber pressures especially with your kids shooting it. That is just my opinion
Cheers

Yes I noticed I made a mistake on Hunt Ontario...But the shells I have are indeed 2 3/4" . The shells at Lebaron are 3"

look for 2 1/2" but I still would not use It in a pre steel shot gun bismuth is what id use its softer a 7.5 shot would work its also heavier then steel but its a load your own game

Agree but he is hell bent on using steel. If there was no kids involved I would say fill your boots but.
The the fact it is a 1952 SXS would mean the barrels are soldered. That alone is a no no with steel let alone the pressures. Pressures we cannot even find out how high they are since winchester has not published them but I can imagine based on my steel reloading of 12 and 10ga. On well take care

NO NO Im not set on Steel ... I'd take anything Non-Toxic. I've come to the conclusion that I'm just going to use 2.5" lead to be on the safe side ESPECIALLY since my kids are going to be shooting the gun. I'd rather just go buy a new 410 that can shoot any non-toxic 3" shot. Recently saw a CZ that sparked my interest....hmmm wonder if I can convince the wife to get this for the kids for Christmas ;) OR have the kids buy it for the wife...she couldnt say No or return it :D

How do I figure out the year this gun was made? I've got all the numbers stamped on the barrel and action, is there a generic code that would tell me roughly when the gun was built?

Lead would be a good plan with some bismuth for the doves right now. I would not buy a new gun to shoot 410 steel right now since although yes much stronger than your old sxs there is so little info out there right now on small guage steel shot who knows if even modern guns can take the pressures.
Just because winchester is making them now doesn't mean anything. Remington is out there selling that hypersonic and it is beating the crap and damaging a pile of guns.
410 steel is real new with so little information on pressures etc in fact I bet out of the 100,000 members there is not one reloading it.
Me I would wait a little bit until some details specs get out and then find out what 410 would be the best to look at to handle steel shot. Don't assume modern small guages like the 410 are OK for this at this stage.
Just the fact it is a 2 3/4" which is a real odd ball in canada/US in the 410 makes me say WTF is winchester getting this overseas
Cheers
