I just recieved this in the mail. Savage 12F-class 6.5-284 Norma:D
IM001915.jpg

Now I need some help in creating a load for it. I would like a recipe that uses Alliant Reloader 22 with 139gr .264 HPBT Lapua scenars, Lapua brass and Winchester large rifle primers.
So far what I've read the loads start at 37.7 and go all the way up to 52.5.
I am hoping someone has done the testing with one of these rifles and would share that info with me. I would like to be sending them down range at or around 2800 - 2900 fps. I'm just looking for a narrower window to start, save using 75 rounds to find out what works!
Thanks

I'm sure you'll hear from fellow shooters here. In the meantime, maybe go poke around on the "6mmBR.com" website. Surprising what you can find there. I've probably spent what adds up in hours to DAYS on the site. Some world class shooters there....

I have 2 of these same rifles in 6.5x284

simple do not waste your time tryig anything else, about 10 of us on these forums shoot teh same loads

142 SMKs
Norma Brass or Lapua Brass
FGMM Primer or CCI BR I perfer Feds
48.0 ON THE N U T S, of H-4350 wil give you (2960s fps) about there anyway
The alternatve load has been 51-52 gr of H 4831 SC but 95% of these guns want H-4350
Be a gentleman, Kiss the lands, do not be to aggressive pushing it in hard she does not like that!

I know every gun is different, but these rifles like these loads.

And welcome to the sub moa world with this rifle.

Mine will shoot, well better than I can.

Just so it marks the ogive.

My rule of thumb, lol! well Walt Bergers and Fred Sinclairs rule of thumb for kissing the lands was to make the markings on the bullet jacket long as they were wide, so form squares on the bullet, just so you can feel it but yet the bolt closes with little resistance

I've got a Savage 12 VLP with a 28" Lothar Walther 6.5x284 Norma. Here's my load information:

Lothar Walther 6.5x284 Norma
Brass: Lapua
Bullet: Lapua Scenar 139grs
Powder: H-4831
Primer: CCI 250
OAL: 3.20”

52.3grs 2887fps .326”
52.6grs 2912fps .402”
52.7grs 2935fps .357”

found it

I think I have found a recipe it likes.
49.6 grains of RL 22, Lapua brass, 139 gr Lapua scenars, Win WLR primers.
5 thu off lands. 2960 fps. Pic shows hole with 24 rounds through it. I missed the dot!! 1/2 staple below for comparison.
