Need a 357 mag recipe

Been reading the Hornady reloading book, and all the 357 mag rounds are tested in an 8 inch barrel. I'd like to load for an 80 grain bullet, max velocity in that short barrel! 110jhp if I can't find smaller
 
For reloading pistols, go completely by the book.
It is too dangerous to go beyond a book shown load.
Look up the load that gives the best velocity in your bullet weight and Presto, you have your load!

Just don't use Blue Dot with a light weight bullet in the 357...I read somewhere about pressure spikes being erratic or something along those lines...

The same charge of the same powder that gives the highest velocity with a normal weight bullet in an 8 inch barrel, will also be best in a shorter barrel.
 
The reloading data for 9 mm is done for a 4 inch barrel, if max pressures are the same for that case, could that data not be used, and why not? Pressure, diameter is the same, the case is shorter so I could see a pressure spike difference, unless the bullet is pushed deeper into the case
 
No recipes in my books for 80gr bullet.
Where are you getting such light bullets from?
The optimal bullet weight for 357mag is 158gr.
 
Your accuracy with a bullet that light may not be what you are looking for. The best defensive bullet in the .357 is usually the 125 grain jhp or lead hp.

This is one of several threads where you have strange questions about reloading, and often appear to actively ignore the advice and information provided. Your simple statement that 9mm Luger data should be OK illustrates a profound lack of understanding and knowledge about reloading.
Those who experiment with the extreme edges (such as 80 grain bullets in a .357 Mag), will often do so because they have long experience of loading by the book, so that they understand what different powders do, and what to expect. They are still taking calculated risks, based on knowledge and experience.
You really need to get a few manuals, read them, and then start slow and reload and shoot book loads. Not only will you get to be a better shot, you will have fewer challenges with your fixed sight Ruger New Vaquero (as you have outlined in one of your other posts), and you won't try to do something really stupid with your loads (remember that others may be injured, not just you).
 
Have you ever asked a question, and the answer "because I said so" or it his case the book said so still left you curious?

Anyways, back on track, my 30caliber Tokarev shoots 85 graibullets at 1500 fpm, The wolf gold fmj 85grain at 1720 and I heard of some rounds as fast as 1800 fpm, all out of a 4.6 inch barrell with a max pressure of 42000psi Which is possible from a 357 magnum

If the grains of the projectile are the same, the max pressure is the same, the only difference being the caliber which the magnum is bigger and has more square area for easier launch, it should be possible to go even faster. The highest velocity factory load for The magnum I found is the federal 125grain jhp, just over 1500 fps out of a 4.5 inch barrel, and it is 50%heavier than a 80 grain

I'm not posting this for arguments sake, I would really like to know what sort of speed I could shoot out of a magnum if it was a hot load with a light projectile, just to go for speed, or accuracy or penetration

I just found double tap ammo, 158grain jhp, 1410fpm form 4 inch barrell, would love to see what and how much powder is in it

Next thing to pay attention to (or study) is the twist rate and how that stabilizes bullets.
I'm sure the twist rate in your Vaquero is not optimal for the 80gr bullet flying at 2000fps or whatever you aim for.
If you think a faster bullet is more accurate, you need to start taking into account the recoil. Short barrel, light bullet, lots of powder = high recoil.
If you think a faster bullet has a flatter trajectory you should know your chosen bullet will shed that impressive muzzle velocity pretty fast = rainbow trajectory.
But I might be wrong again.
Innovation is sparked by ignoring the books.
Just stay safe.

I think it would be safer for you to purchase the QuickLoad software and simulate your experiments first.
