Need a .40 with rail for tactical shoots, Any sugestions? Looking but can't make up my mind since there are so many choices out there. I was thinking M&P, SIG, XD AND H&K but is one any better than the other? Price is not a option here, well not more $1400. Quality, accuracy and reliability his more the norm here. They all fair well. As what I read on previous tread the listing should read like this: #1 H&K, #2 XD, #3 SIG, #4 M&P? Is this correct? Any other contenders that should be mentioned? I tried a glock, but agree with the fit and feel. XD was nice, Never tried the M&P or the HK.

I am just getting into "tactical shoots", I use an M&P9. I find it works the best from 5 to 15-17 yrds. out past 20 it doesn't seem to fair too well. Most of the guys I shoot tactical with are using the M&P, 5 out of 8, 2 others are shooting glocks & 1 a CZ.

Out of the 9 of us I am usually in 8th place...... lol!! :D

The 3 guys that usually share top 3 (they vary back & forth) 2 are M&P and 1 is a glock....

If that hepls at all.......

In a plastic gun I like my M&P 40 and find it shoots better with my reloads than factory FMJ. For metal guns I love SIG (P226). HK's and Glocks are ok too but are fussy about ammo (no lead, plated, or copper wash bullets) because of their polygonal rifling.

Since you're not worried about the price range, Sig P226. Comfortable to shoot and reliable.

I'd go with a USP or a P226R.

Norc NP-58 [Sig 226 clone].....................

NAA.

XD all the way. IMHO.......Try a glock then try an XD:

the Xd fits better (incredibly more comfortable)
feels a lot better (has a slimmer profile especially in .40 or .45 which translates into a better all around grip and thus shot placement)
fires better (Glock triggers SUCK and the muzzle flip is significantly more than other polymer handguns)!

Regards,

Thanks guys! Didn't realize there was such a big love for 226R. Now I'm looking maybe to pick up a Crimson trace laser grips for the Beretta and I've seen flashlights mounted to a strap around the palm of your hand. This would eleminate the rail issue. I've also seen rails that mount to the trigger gard. The club here was talking about doing a few combat shoots at night, so this is why I was looking for a another gun with a rail. The SIG is getting more and more intresting as I read, but my curiosity is for the new STI GP6 9mm, it seems to have good reviews but has not been available to Canada until recently. I think they might have slide issues. I'm not sure if that's resovled now. The GP6 is essentialy the Grand Power K100 made for STI. Anyone else here about these?

GP 6 is nice, finding a fitted holster may be a challenge. I love HK stuff but the USP rail is not standard spec and will require a USP light or adapter. XD's are quite a good value. SIG is nice too.

You should try out any gun you want to buy first. Fit in your hand is the most important thing. For that the M&P is a winner with the modular grip.

What kind of shoots are you referring to?

Neither IDPA nor IPSC require a rail.

And why a .40?

Curious as to the sport and the rationale:)

John

The Club does it here with volonteers (not sure if that's spelled right), and I do not beleive it's IDPA or IPSC, I think it's just a few trainning excersises the guys put together. I have never been to them, but they did mention they wanted to do it a night this year (I guess to try out their tactical lights). As for the .40 alot of people say it's more fun than a 9mm because it has a little punch to it. Plus most of the guys here reload their ammo. As for personal prefence, I don't know, I've never shot a 9mm before. Tried the XD and a Norinco 1911 in a .40 last summer.

We have an IPSC instructor comming our way this summer, and I'm looking forward to the tranning for the certification. My Beretta should be fine for this (If I like it, Havn't received it yet!).

You might want to attend a match before you spend coin on another gun. May find the one you have is plenty good enough.

I am a big fan of the M&P's. With the integral rail they may fit the bill for hanging a light or a laser. Actually I plan to pick up a laser for mine to use as a training aide as well as for some just plain fun.

Anyhow, good luck with it and have fun.

John
