I'm using a S&W 22A for bulleye right now. I've had it for about 6 months. So far it's been a decent pistol. It shoots consistant 2'' groups at 25 yards with federal gold medal ammunition. It worked good for this season for practice and competition as my skill level and experience was low.

THe problems with the gun are pretty minor. I'm not a fan of the trigger pull (although it's on par with anything else in it's price range) and I don't really like how the gun balances in my hand.

Now I'm starting to get pretty good at shooting and I'd like something that's going to be more accurate. I'm willing to pay up to and around $1000.00 for it but would prefer to keep it cheaper.

Here is what I'm thinking.

I've seen some pretty accurate Ruger Mark I, II ,III's out there. I've shot them before and have found them to be a comfortable hold. I like the new Mark III competition stainless their offering. Is this going to give me the accuracy I need?

Or perhaps I could find an older Mark II and upgrade. THeres tons of aftermarket stuff for these pistols. Would I be able to build a gun accurate enough to justify spending the money?

If not then what will give me the best acuraccy for under $1000.00? I'm going to rule out the Browning Buckmark right now. I've never liked the way they handle. Other than that I'm all ears.

The only hammerli there that would work is the international 215. The only problem being it has right hand thumbrest grips and I shoot left. How hard would it be to get new or custom made grips?

What about the beretta 76's?

Don't waste your time or money.
Go for a used Walther GSP or Pardini SP (new).
No "upgrades" will be needed.

Should be able to find a USED GSP for $1000.00
Pardini's are much harder to find used.
Easy to find RH or LH grips for either.

The Hunter is a good "entry" level target gun. But.... if you're serious rather than just informal/fun days at the range then get the higher end ones already suggested. Hamereli, Walther etc.

Also with the Hunter I had to get a gunsmith to change the sights from the V-notch/fiber optic to the target sights. Due to the barrel fluting you can't just swap the front of another Ruger target model sight. I had to have different ones ordered and installed. It shoots great and I'm very happy with it, but it won't compete with a Walther.

That's why I was looking at the mark III Competition over the hunter. It comes with the target sights already.

I've had a few offers from members for some really nice guns. Two of the nice ones are a High Standard Trophy and a S&W 41.

I'm still debating on what I'm going to do. I also have a line on a Mark II at a price that's almost criminal. The guy is a good friend of my dad's and it's been a safe queen for the last decade or so. I'm not sure on the model but for what he's asking it's hard to turn down.

I LOVE my Browning Medalist. Bought it used for $250, but now I see them advertised for over $600. The Hammeri are great, but more expensive, also the Walther I think. The old Browning Medalists are better guns than the Buckmarks, They have a dry firing feature that disengages the firing pin.
