Need a bit of advice/help for M305b

Hey fellow gun nutz!

As stated, my problem is with my M305. It shoots fine and well. Nothing wrong there at all. The problem only came when I mounted a scope on it. I didn't want to go too cheap on that as I like to try and learn how to shoot at a distance.

So I mounted a Promag M14 Heavy Duty Scope Mount and used Barska AI11490 Tactical 30mm Rifle Scope Rings. Looks some kinda ###y on has no problem holding the zero. The only problem I do have is that sometimes after I fire, the round gets stuck (about 1 in 20) between the bolt coming back foreword and the front scope mount ring leg.

If you amazon the scope rings you'll see like most heavy duty? rings, they have thick legs to hold onto the mount. They stick off the mount only a few more cm but that's all it takes.

I can send pictures of you like. I know it's a bit hard to understand and I gave up trying to post to here.

With that i'm thinking of getting scope rings with thinner legs but almost all look like they wouldn't be able to hold zero on a semi .308.
I am by no meants a pro when it comes to this is any advice would be most helpful.

Although I must admit I don't have any experience with the Pro Mag scope mount, I've never heard anyone say anything really good about them.

My recommendations for scope mountings are your very own M14.CA CASM, Sadlak and Bassett. I personally own the Bassett and it works very well. I also have a CASM but it will be a couple of weeks before it gets used for the first time but I've heard nothing but good things from people who own them. You also need a good cheek rest if you're not using one already. You MUST have a consistent and proper cheek weld when shooting with a scope or else you will have inconsistent groups. I use a Bradley strap-on cheek rest but you guys have Tac-Pro up there which I've heard nothing but good things about too.

What kind of scope are you using and what kind of rest are you using? If you're using a GI gas cylinder mounted bipod, that could be a problem too.

If you're sure the cases are getting hung up on the rings themselves, I suggest getting a set of these:

Not only are they excellent and durable, but the extra inserts can give you an extra 20 MOA of adjustment.

If the cases are hanging up on the rail itself, I can't recommend the CASM II highly enough as a replacement; I've used a couple of them on different rifles and they've been absolutely rock solid and don't interfere with ejection at all.

arms 18 or smith enterprise are the two I recommend.
I've seen them all trap brass at the oprod.
sometimes this is solved by trimming ejector and extractor springs but best left to experienced hands.
I think the rifle should have it's irons for back up in the event the optic craps out so I don't use those mounts that replace the rear sight

I have that Archangel M14 Precision stock. So the cheek rest is good to go. My scope I have mounted is a Bushnell ET5154 Tactical 5-15X40. The only other thing I have upgrade is the Match Grade Spring Guide Op Rod

That is what i'm looking for right off the bat (scope rings wise) It "should" fix my problem. If not i'll have to make sure to get a new mount also.

I have heard people talking about trimming the ejector. I wouldn't dear try it tho!

I get that for guy's that use a qd mounting solution, if not well the chance of our rifle being in a battlefield environment were you have the time and capacity to remove the scope/mount after your scope craps out is slim to none.

99% of the time wen a scope craps out your left with only 2 choice.

1- case the gun and leave the range
2-case the gun and switch to another gun on the range.

If your out hunting and you happen to drop/bash/ rollover your rifle so badly that the scope is unusable, well I dont think reverting back to your irons are gona be the first thing on your mind ;-) .... but thats nust me .

I have had it happen while on a 14 day moose trip. being a smart guy I keep the allen key for undoing the rings and tipping them , with the scope, off the mount. The arms 18 I've been using for over a decade has not failed me and affords full use of the irons when I need them.
but just because I prefer a mount that retains the irons by no means is me stating that my set up should be what everyone uses.
if I was just shooting at the range, which I very rarely do, I take a troy MCS equipped LRB 18.5" :D (with flip up back ups and optic )
 
Not going to be a problem with our 3 day moose hunting season in n-b plus it's a lottery and we haven't had luck since we started applying me and my dad, past 5 years.

But I totally get were your coming from! What I do on dear hunting trip I bring a back up gun.
