need a good .22lr pistol

Gotta agree with Mike about the 22/45. I have one and have the instruction manual, and I still find it extremely fiddly to re-assemble. I hate doing it, so I end up not shooting that gun very often just to avoid having to clean it. Been eyeing the new Walther PPQ M2 in .22lr. Wouldn't mind getting both the 9mm and .22lr versions.
 
Browning Buckmarks are very good target pistols for the money. As good at the Ruger all day, and the suggested cleaning is, as someone else mentioned, running a swab/brush and a few drops of oil.

The Colt Gold Cup is reportedly very good too, and was $500 not long ago.

EDIT - It appears iRUNguns has the Colt just under $440. I can't get on the site now though, "down for maintenance".

Once I removed the magazine disconnect the gun became insanely easier to field strip. Not to mention that the magazines fall away now instead of needing to be plucked out of the gun.

I understand that a couple of these guns are really tough to punch out the pin on the main spring housing. One hint is that a little bit of wiggling while holding downward pressure will aid in walking the hollow on the pin past the ball end on the recoil spring.

And once apart use a stone to remove any burrs on the stamped sheet metal ball of the recoil spring strut. The Ruger uses the recoil spring as the locking spring for the MSH pin. The end is formed over to produce a ball shape made from two parts that are stamped out. But any burrs on the edges of that stamping can catch on the cutaway in the pin. Stoning away these burrs made mine a lot easier to withdraw the MSH pin by hand instead of having to use a punch like I did the first time. This is also where a Dremel with a rubberized abrasive wheel to polish the burrs away would be nice.
 
Buy a Browning Buck simple take down great shooter trouble free eats any ammo price is good. But the Ruger mark 3 are great shooters when you install a competition kit take down is really not bad my Walter's GSP' s are near 99.9 % perfect but cost a lot more

The initial post was about obtaining a "good" 22LR pistol. Haven't seen a post recommending either a Smith & Wesson Model 41 or High Standard Victor, two of the best 22LR pistols made. My two cents .....

And, both are relatively simple to clean.

But, a little out of the $ 500.00 price range.

Still, I would look into these.

More like 2 times or more the OP's budget! Reminds me of all the times on car forums when someone asks for suggestions for an economical and reliable compact car and someone suggests a BMW M3 ;)

Yes, the MkIII is a bit tricky to manage. And there's certainly examples out there that need some attention to make then easier to open. But as far as the tricks needed to do this go it's simply NOT that bad. If you make it a point to watch some of the videos with gun in hand to learn the steps and if you do this a couple of times a day for a week by the third day you won't need the videos. By the end of the week it'll be automatic and programmed into your brain and you'll be able to do it in your sleep.
 
I've had my Tangfolio force 22lr for about 5 years now.

Its a great Lil gun. Extremely light weight. Awesome shooter. I find it to be bang on accurate.
It disisembles quite easily for a quick clean up.

I would highly recommend it as a 22lr pistol.

The cons
Does not like to run dirty. 22lr ammo is dirty and you will have to give her a quick cleaning before your next range visit.
The slide does not lock back after last round is fired.
Comes in a cheap plastic container

I just ordered a few mags via "I run guns" each mag was only 22usd.
It will be under "tangfolio witness" as I believe that the "force" is not offered in the US

I purchase this firearm long before the taticool 22lrs were available. It was between the mosquito (which I heard a lot of bad things about) and the CZ kadet with retailed for about 300 dollars more I believe.

Its a gun that I will keep forever. Like I said before if you keep it clean and oiled you will have no issues with this gun

I would say the Smith&Wesson M&P 22 fits your exact criteria. It's right under your $500 budget. It can be field stripped easy as any pistol on the market. And it would be excellent to practice your fundamentals on (especially if you have a center fire version M&P).

I am buying one as soon as i get my funds together. I've been doing a ton of research on .22 pistols and the M&P 22 is absolutely top notch. It is extremely reliable, and feeds almost any type of ammo you give it. Many have shot tens of thousand of rounds through them and they work excellent.

S&W mod 41,, xcellent pistol and not much out of your $$ range... Get an older one, never seen one that was shot out, a few dings, good value!!!
