Need a good 30-06 for a price under 1000R$

I went with the Ruger American 30-06, I was going to go with a Remington 783 after obsessively researching online. In store, I handled three rifles to see how they 'felt' to me.

The cheapest was the Remington 783, and it felt heavy, looked cheap, but I was sure I was going to go with this low-cost option, especially since all my buds have Tikkas, and I wanted to prove I could hunt with something 1/4-1/3 the cost they spent. I then held the Ruger American and my heart sank, as it was $100 more and felt so good! It was light-weight, and just felt 'better' to me (and I'm a total gun newbie). I then held the Tikka and had the same feeling as the Ruger, lighter and seemed to fit me 'good'. The price difference between the Ruger and the Tikka was enough to push the Ruger forward, and I'm happy I did.

After shooting a few rounds in the Ruger I found it to be accurate, with a really nice trigger. One of my Tikka wielding buds took a couple shots with it at the range and was surprised at how well it shot, and felt. The bolt is ok, but that's an area that the Tikka's shine, however the bolt is for sure good enough for me, and seems to get better after more use. I ended up getting $100 off also from a sale - seems like it was meant to be. I put a Vortex Viper BDC 3x9x40 that was on sale and it's a fantastic starter rig. With taxes I was under $1k including scope and hard case, and 20 rounds 180 grain hornadys.

In my opinion the Ruger American is the best bag-for-your buck entry level rifle, as my CORE instructor told me, the deer don't care how much your rifle cost you.

I bought one of those merkel R 15's that a site sponsor was clearing out a while ago. Fabulous trigger, very smooth and fast bolt and accurate. I see some getting flipped on the EE. I really appreciate the good trigger.

I highly recommend the Savage Edge/Axis or the Remington 770. Both fine rifles in 30-06...

I'd recommend the Rem 710. They're not made anymore which makes them a bit of a collectors item. Highly prized because of their fantastic accuracy and reliability. If you can find one for sale in 30-06 jump on it. Don't even hesitate just buy it for whatever they seller is asking. You won't regret it!

Winchester XPR and Browning AB3 have $100 rebate for black Friday sale on now which puts them in the Savage Axis price range. After comparing the 2, I ordered an AB3 in 6.5 Creedmoor tonight to see what all the fuss is about.

So, on Oct. 21st at 5 pm, you HAVE a new Mossberg Patriot .30/06, on Oct. 21st at 9 pm, you THINK you are going to get a Mossberg Patriot .30/06... you start multiple threads for your MOSTLY target rifle and your MOSTLY hunting rifle, and then never go back to any of them... I think you need to figure out what you want a rifle for before asking for information.
