What do you want to use it for? And how much do you want to pay?
If you just want a .45 buy the one that you think is pretty.
If you want it for action shooting then look at an STI ( Trojan, Ranger or up) , a Colt, a Wilson, Ed Brown, Les Baer..the sky is the limit here almost

Dan wesson vbob is hands down the best .45 for the money. Hk's are highly recommended by hk owners trying to justify paying way too much for what it is, and people who have never shot hk's :)

LOL cute, Hks are expensive coming from the guy who says Dan Wesson. 1911s are high maintenance and picky guns I do not care how much money you paid, your 1911 will not out last my HK without major rebuilds/parts replacements and constant cleaning and lubing during use.

OP, while we all like the same things, in the end, you still will be a sucker for big breasted blondes and I will always loose it for reds and their pink whatchamaycallits.

If you understand what I mean, it does not matter what me or buddy likes or recommend. Its you, your budget and your fancy. Just get a quality piece that suits your needs and go shoot the living hell out of it.

Should the love for it not stick forever, you'll get your money back at sell/swap time.

1911's are high maintenance? Not sure on that one. Go to a range where they rent pistols and ask how many rounds through some of the 1911's there. You may be pleasantly surprised. They are usually highly modified - although quite frequently, they probably did not need the mods in the first place. It is just the Barbie for men, that's all. Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize ...

1911,, real full metal, you won't be disapointed.

I like the Remington R1s (stainless), super Nice trigger action.

I own a colt NM and have put thousands of rds through mine and have not had a problem,,,I keep hearing about how unreliable 1911's are,,,, I dont know, maybe I got a good one but I dont think so.

So I would recommend a Colt NM, fits my hand very well, has an excellent adjustable trigger, is more accurate than I can shoot it and is has proven to be very reliable...

I had an FNP .45 Last year with a Trijicon RMR RDS which was a great gun but it got sold to make room for a rifle. My "never to be sold" .45 is a NightHawk Custom Predator II that I configured to my expensive tastes. It looks and shoots superbly.
