Need a good hunting load for a 30-06 mossgerg 4x4, 168 gr Tsx, H4350

Hi there, I want to make my father a favor by giving him a box of premium Loaded rounds for his mossberg 4x4 in 30-06 .. But I don't really have the time to devellop the load exactly for his rifle.. And we gonna hunt in a few weeks ... Do some of you have a great recipe that fits A mossberg 4x4 Using the 168 gr. TSX and the H4350 .. Was thinking about 57- 58gr H4350.. bullet .050 off the land ( like barnes say) Win nickel Brass...

You are talking about a very poor plan. I strongly reccommend you do not carry on with that plan.
If you had the rifle, you could build up the load safely, in the rifle it will be shot in.
The load you suggest may be OK, but not a good idea to just load it up and give them to your Dad.
 
Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Lyman shows 57gr. as a max compressed load.

If you dont have the time to build up a load the right way, don't bother. Just buy Him a couple boxes of factory rounds...
 
Buy some Premium Factory loads.
Sierra lists H4350SC max at 54.1
Dis . . . ass . . . ter is writen all over.

With my own rifles, developing a load takes time and planning.

57grains??!!

As has been stated...please you don't start at the max load, and a compressed load at that, in an unfamiliar rifle. Man...

Glad you have seen the light. Load development should not be rushed. You would not be delivering your father a premium round, just a premium bullet loaded in so-so case with unknown capabilities.

The trick with reloading premium rounds is you can still go one better than the factory "premium" rounds because you can tune them to your particular rifle. You can actually get "factory premium round performance" using bulk parts.
My 100ATR shoots my reloads (150gn Remington bulk PSP bullets) to 5/8" groups at 100yds at close to 3000fps for $.41 per round.
Same bullet weight in a Winchester Supreme Elite Premium cartridges shoot to just over 3/4" for $2.50 a bullet.
Same bullet weight in a Remington Scirroco Premium won't come under 7/8" for $2.25 a bullet.
If I were to load some of the nosler accubonds I have just picked up, I am sure that they would be in the 1/2" area for groups.

Don't wast your reloading talents by reloading inferior rounds.

ditto, don't load those for your dad without trying them.

The load you are thinking about is what I load for my son's Sako 75 30-06, but it's been loaded and tested for hundreds of rounds in his gun.
 
Thanks guys, I'm already working on it .. to make a test for Ocw on his rifle.. Will be shooting it next week.. Hoping to make some good group with it !!!
