Here is a picture of them , I will be trying them out after , have to do errands with the wife first:rolleyes:

In order for those types of shoes to work properly you have to wear spandex leotards, a $400. jacket over a the same amount invested in merino wool underwear and fleece sweater, $150 dollar hiking shoes over $25 socks. Some sort expensive gloves holding onto a couple hundred dollars worth of adjustable hiking poles. Oh yes and don't forget your rehydration pack with mineral water.

Just teasing...!! Years ago when I taught at the private ski clubs in the Collingwood area you would see the members Wives, Mistresses, Girlfriends come out on the lesser used runs in the afternoons in small groups dressed as per described above. They all had to have the most expensive fancy metal and plastic snow shoes to walk on groomed ski hills, quite a fashion parade of the most high end maintenance women around. Between the gaggling of talking and the clatter of plastic and metal on the hard surfaced snow you could hear them coming several hundred yards away while on the lifts.

They didn't seem to be as loud as people make them out to be in the powder where I user them In the middle of the big land (Labrador) . You won't see no fancy gear on my back! Just hope these last a while since they where a bit pricey. I'm really hoping the price is a reflection of excellent canadian quality

Once you have used the rawhide laced beaver tail snowshoes of good make, you will never be satisfied with any of the modern contraptions.

Agreed, they are still the best. Quiet, light, with excellent floatation Just need some varnish at the end of the season, and keep them away from salt.

I have matal frame CF shoes, and a set of plastic covered new style shoes, they all have issues in the back country. The wire framed ones need to be much larger as the mesh lets the snow through, and you sink more. The plastic ones are noisy, and they slide more on hills.

I was out today with my wife on hard spring snow, she took the plastics, I took the traditional. Today the CF shoes would have been fine, but the traditionals still had better traction than the plastics. my cousin has the aluminum framed ones with the big cleats on the bottom, they'd have worked too, but you'd have heard him a mile off. Snow was heavy spring, with ice in places. The kind of snow you can almost walk on.
