Good day:

I need someone in the Edmonton area who can tap an existing base screw hole that has been stripped.

The rifle is a Sauer 202 with an aluminum receiver. The previous owner overtightened the rear screw holding the rear base in place and stripped the hole.

I tried ks arms but they don’t do that kind of work any longer.

Kind regards,

No gunsmith recommendation, but Brownells sells an oversized 6-48 tap and matching screws to deal with situations like this.

Hello Again:

Got my 9.3x62, Sauer 202 rifle back from the boys at sights and arms in St. Albert. Two weeks to the day as promised. They did a beautiful job installing a new screw. Can’t tell the difference. Picked up a set of rings for my cz 457. Had a little chat with the owner about our various military service. Went to pay for the work and the rings; he says, “10% off for veterans.” This shop just became my new go-to for all things firearms related.

Took the gun to the range yesterday. Put 18 round of Hornady 286 grain bullets down range. Groups have tightened right up.

Two thumbs up for Sights and Arms.

Kind regards,

Probably easier and cheaper just to take it for 10 minutes to a good local machine shop or even a good hobby machinist.
Not many machine shops or hobby machinists are licensed to work on firearms...

Good to hear about Sights and Arms.

Any machine shop should be able to help you out google will help you I can’t seem to post the gunsmith I use it blocks out his shops name
He has it fixed already, post 15 ... and not many machine shops or hobby machinists are licensed to work on firearms...

oh if only it was that easy first off machine shops don't have the proper tap size
the original size was 6/48
now the next size used for guns is 8/40 you will need a number 28 drill bit
you will also have to drill the hole in the back base to accommodate the larger dia screw then you will have to drill the back hole of the base to acomadate the larger dia of the head on the new screw
i have done many on aluminium receivers
that is the short and skinny of it

Does anyone have experience with Sights and Arms in St. Albert?
I have used them and Rod H, they are less pricey, Rod is fussier, more expensive, but I think does a slightly better job. Either would be fine, I think last time Rod was faster, about a week turn around.
