Need a little help with M1 Garand parts

Hey there,

So I've got a Beretta Garand receiver, and a Criterion 308 barrel from TradeEx. I've decided that I'm going to try to build a rifle as close as I can get to what would have been issued by the Italians back in the 50's-60's, without spending an absurd amount more than I would to complete a shooter grade 30-06. However, after doing a bit of research, I'm not sure where to go with my parts list. I understand that some of the 308 barrels had the chambers shortened, and thus need a shorter Op rod and a shorter butt stock than the original 30-06 version. And there's some sort of reducer part that sits inside the receiver, I'm not sure if I need that with certain combinations of parts or what.

I'm thinking I'd like to get a newly made stock from Boyds, but will it work with my 308 barrel? Will I be OK using a normal length Op rod? Are there specific 308 parts that are different from the 30-06 rifle that I'd need to hunt down? I've got a few videos, but they're really not answering any questions and seem to be geared towards people who bought completed parts kits.

Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

Fantastic! That's what I was hoping to hear, I just wanted to make sure before I started spending money on parts that I wouldn't be able to return if I messed up.

The spacer inside the receiver isn't mandatory but a nice to have. Even if you seat a clip of 30-06 in the rifle it won't chamber. They can be found on the EE sometimes...plastic or metal. The metal is better.

If the barrel is to USGI specs then op rod, and stock set will be the same as the 3006 Garand. I did not think Tradex had Criterion barrels, I purchased a few Citadel 3006 barrels from them, they may have now. You will need a 308 pull thru reamer and go/no go gauges. When I installed my Citadel barrels from Tradex I needed to cut back the shoulder of the barrel on the lathe to get it to index properly. You may want to take your receiver, barrel, and bolt to gunsmith to install as the reamer and gauges would set you back probably $300 USD. Numrich has the 308 spacer block and many other parts you can ship to Canada. I also bought a Boyds stock directly from Boyds in USA, was very nice and fit like a glove $200 plus USD with shipping. You may want a modified stock set from Numrich for less than half the price. Anyway good luck, have fun.

Opps, that was a typo. It was a 308 Citadel barrel that I bought. As for reaming, indexing and head spacing the rifle ... I don't trust myself to accurately do those parts of the assembly properly and am going to have a gunsmith do that for me. I'm going to have to take a look at Numrich's stuff as well and see if there's any parts I can scrape up from them. Thanks for the feedback.

If your close to Windsor Vulcan gun is very knowlagable. I pumped my Breda with mixed parts reparked it in a month maybe two. I did want to screw with my 43 dated Springfield.

I got my barrel for the breda off tradex as well no regrets.
