Hey there,
So I've got a Beretta Garand receiver, and a Criterion 308 barrel from TradeEx. I've decided that I'm going to try to build a rifle as close as I can get to what would have been issued by the Italians back in the 50's-60's, without spending an absurd amount more than I would to complete a shooter grade 30-06. However, after doing a bit of research, I'm not sure where to go with my parts list. I understand that some of the 308 barrels had the chambers shortened, and thus need a shorter Op rod and a shorter butt stock than the original 30-06 version. And there's some sort of reducer part that sits inside the receiver, I'm not sure if I need that with certain combinations of parts or what.
I'm thinking I'd like to get a newly made stock from Boyds, but will it work with my 308 barrel? Will I be OK using a normal length Op rod? Are there specific 308 parts that are different from the 30-06 rifle that I'd need to hunt down? I've got a few videos, but they're really not answering any questions and seem to be geared towards people who bought completed parts kits.
Thanks for any help you guys can give me.
