i have a beretta 90-two 9 mm .... it is not liked by everyone, but i have abused it a lot, i use it in an outdoor range , i shoot when it rains, when it snows, when its 98 degrees with 89 % humidity...i shoot with precision and sometimes i unload 5 or 10 rounds right away: never jammed, always accurate...no signs of wear after 5000 rounds besides some normal finish wear on moving parts...

it the unlikely event that the gov. would ever conscript me by force, ill be bringing my beretta.

had tried the regular 92 fs on several occasions; also great. According to the beretta website, 90-two was made to fix what little problems you had with the 92fs (didn't know that 92fs's had any...)

in fairness, sigs are also reputed to be excellent pistols...if i was as rich as i was good looking, i would probably go for a sig next... glocks are also apparently reliable though i personally feel square-plastic casted pistols dont have enough pizzazz to be talked about ... as for norinco's? only get the 1911 brands... lets just leave it at that..

Beretta/Taurus or Sig, Etc.

need to (want to) add ONE gun to the arsenal, this time in 9mm for a number of reasons (as opposed to sticking to .40S&W like i thought previously)

gonna use it in IDPA and probably IPSC (but i wouldn't compete in IPSC seriously, just for kicks). already shot them both, but not extensively to know all the details that would make my decision easy, so....

Beretta 92 - i like the big grip, it's accurate, i like the open slide design but sometimes the brass flies straight back and not to the side, i'm hoping that finding those blocks to replace every 5k rounds isn't going to be impossible, and if i do go this route i'd actually favour the Taurus versions simply due to their frame-mounted 3-position safety/decocker.

Sig 226 - fits well, shoots just fine, seems to absorb recoil in a weird plasticy way, the decocker is pretty good to have, mags seem to be expensive (and i'd probably need 6 in total) as is the gun itself, no idea on what will need frequent replacement (perhaps that weird-arse braided recoil spring???)

other than cost (which seems to be in favour of the Beretta), what are some other factors that i'm not aware of? and based on those, which would be the better gun to add to the arsenal? or is there a THIRD type that would fit even better? i've only got space for ONE more (and so far have a revolver, a glock, and a 1911)

This is an eternal debate and the simple answer is: get a gun that works best for you. Easy to say, hard to do. You have to "buy and try" or rent various models, makes, etc. if you're trying to find the "one" gun than fits your hands well, always works, sights easily and just plain feels like it's the best shooter you've ever owned. Warranty and after market service are important considerations also.

That said, you might want to buy an STI Trojan 5" 9mm to start. I've owned quite a few pistols and revolvers in my time and STI pistols always feel "just right" for me. They have never failed to feed or eject, they're exceptionally accurate out of the box, STI's warranty service is second to none, and they're an all round great gun for the price (they're also made - except for most of the Spartan models - in the good ol' USA). I've owned several Sigs and Berettas and they're excellent guns but in the end it's my STI's I like the best. Go forth and experiment my son.

either one or a CZ...pick one feels better in your hand.
stay away from taurus or norinco if you can afford it. you will realize you crave the real thing. not that there is anything wrong with taurus or norc just nicer finish and they feel better when compared. my first 9mm was a taurus and i believe beretta has a better quality...
