Need a rifle to cover the gap between my 338LM and .22LR. What cal?

As much fun as the cannon is to shoot I can not always make it to a place worth shoot it, and it's an expensive beast to feed.

I can't decide what caliber I should get to cover the gap between the 338lm and the .22lr.
I keep thinking, 308, or 223, or 22-250, maybe 204.

I'd like to shoot decent ammo for a buck or less a round. and give me at least 1 MOA at 300 meters.
Or should I just say screw it and get a gun like a M14 and have some fun?
I have a good scope to put on whatever I get. And of course I would like to spend as little as I can, but don't need to be cheap.
Has anyone else fell into this predicament?

I would say that you are being lazy. Thats right lazy! you don't need A rifle to cover that gap, you need several! Now get off the couch, put away the laptop and get cracking!
If you choose the 223 you will always be asking about the 22-250, and it doesn't work in reverse.
If I was looking for something that would fill more than one role the 6mm/243 or a 25-06, you will not be disappointed.

223 and 308....
I will probably not buy another 300 win mag, next caliber over 308 will be 338 I guess.
(if I ever feel like wasting 4000$ on another rifle)

my vote is for .223

why the complaint towards factory ammo availability? I sure hope you reload if you're feeding that 338LM a steady diet, also saw you wanted MOA at 300y reloading gives you the ability to tailor a load for your rifle, I know I wouldn't be chasing down an MOA rifle with the intent to use factory ammo.

I'd say .308. It's ore powerful and has better ballistics than .223. It's also cheaper than 30-06+ and is a lot easier on the shoulder. .270 is a great caliber as well though..

Let's see.... Cheap ammo, using it to shoot with your buddies and want to find a deal....It's time to buy a SKS like the thousands of other weekend warriors at the range. It would cover all your wants.
N'est-ce pas?

Cost effectiveness of ammo the.223 and.308 are your obvious choices. Though I have picked up a Stevens 200 in.223 to target shoot cheaply and I have to say the rifle is affordable and quite capable for the price.

You call that a gap? How about going right down the middle and get something in 7mm? 284 Win? 280 Rem?

If you don't handload, and so are a slave to the ammo manufacturers, and on a tight budget (yet you have something in 338 LM?), you need to do what everyone else does and get a 223 or a 308.
