I plan on going deer hunting this year with some friends down in the Cranbrook area.
Any recommendations for a decent scope? Hoping to find something under $500.

For an excellent scope under $500, have a good look at the Bushnell Elite line (3500 and 4500's).

They are made in Japan, with glass from "Light Optical Works", which are excellent sources for both production and glass. The scopes come with a lifetime, no questions warranty, with a service center here in Canada.

452104B Elite 4500 2.5-10x40mm, DOA-600 reticle, matte black, 1" tube, 0.25 moa $449.00

Very hard to beat for the money, especially after Bushnell implemented their price level adjustment earlier this year.

Most models are in stock - please let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Cheers,

Omer

You don't need anything more than a 3-9 around Cranbrook, I have shot many deer in the area. I suggest taking a look through a few scopes and pick the one you can naturally see through the easiest.
You also probably just need a duplex reticle, most deer around Cranbrook I have shot in under 100 yards.

PSS has some good looking sticker prices compared to what I've seen posted.

Not to bash what was offered, but the 7th one down or second one up I own.
Tad heavy compared to my Leupold 3-9x40.
It's a VX II and a fair slimmer profile.
That bit on each end of optics I sure don't notice.
Might have to try and compare them out in the fog/dark/dusk/early light to see
if there is any remarkable gain on t'either one.
