Just ordered a browning blr 450 marlin (thanks epps) and wondering if a leupold vx1 3-9 will stand up to he abuse of the 450 or if I need a better scope. I think 3-9 ought to be enough it's not a long distance round
I would get a lower power variable, 1-4X, 1-5X, up to 1.75-6X, or low fixed power scope. Maybe a 2X, 4X. The ranges you would be shooting at, 4X to 6X is as high as you really need.
Too bad you didn't take Bushnell up on their offer a while back when
they had that mail in re-bait............ : D
Are you sure thats a good thing Looky?
Well said. 3x9 is unnecessary. I would never stick a 3x9 on a .450 Marlin BLR. If you do most of your shooting at ranges requiring 8 or 9x magnification, then a .450 marlin is a poor choice. When you get into any kind of a close-up situation, 3x is ridiculously over-magnified. Check out 2-7, it will be a way more versatile setup. If it was me, I'd go with something in the 1-5 range. As for brand, can't go wrong with Leupold.
gee, you must be mellowing out Gary, it's not like you to be so mild mannered when the name Bushnell is mentioned!![]()
I read your post, and thougt I would put your experience to the test.Looked thru a VX-R 3-9 at an object 25 yards away set on 3.Tried the same with a VX3 1.5-5.Try it and see how much difference you see.The poor choice in my eyes ,is the 450 marlin.
Open sites at 25 yards is barely necessary, nor is a 450.I originally said the 9 power is nice if you want to have a look at something farther away.

Yes, this thread was mostly about the recoil. I have a vx1 3-9 but was t sure if it would survive.
