Me and a buddy decided to split a case of 1000 rounds of .308, but before we put in such an order I was wondering if I could get a review on the quality of the Tula ammo. Or, another company which may be better?

hi there.. i did buy some ammo from Tula a couple months ago. though it was 30 carbine not 308. And I've only had time for 1 day (sigh) to shoot my M1 carbine.. but i had no problems with their ammo.. it was with their online ordering i had problems. But they had always had a quick email reply and ended calling in the order..

Funny enough, I was asked to stop shooting TUL ammo on a range in Vegas earlier this year. A friend of mine picked up quite a few boxes for use in his AR and AK. We had been shooting on the lane for a few mags, when one of the range officers came in, and ordered us to cease and make safe. He picked up one of the spent cases, and immediately asked if we were shooting TUL. My buddy says yes, and he tells us we cannot shoot this ammo there. The steel casings give it away. The shots are steel core, almost armor piercing, and will ruin baffles and back stops at ranges. We were allowed to continue with other ammo we had. Is this common?

russian made, millions of rounds down range all around the world. I do believe they are the largest ammo manfacture in the world....you'll have to check on that.

I can see the problems with the ammo if steel core at a indoor range however outdoors who cares.

We need to order 30 carbine so good to know it is decent quality.

Steel core doesn't mean armor piercing. If the steel in the core is very soft, it can be close to hard cast lead in hardness. The same goes for steel jackets and copper. There's a ton of BS out there about this issue and pretty much everything you "hear" about steel case and steel core ammo being bad is pure ignorance.

Steel is steel .
If your range dose not allow steel core bullets & the RO pulls out a magnet & tests your ammo you are done.
Doesn't matter how soft or hard the steel is.

Agreed, rules are rules - but we all know that rules based in superstition, or ignorance bring the group making the rules into disrepute - just ask a Liberal..

All Tula ammo( and all other steel cased ammo, excluding maybe hornady steel cased match ammo) is lead core copper plated steel jackets so its not range friendly.

This thread, like so many others has become the steel/ copper/ blah blah range argument.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE EXPERIENCE with 7.62x 51 Tula cartridges? Do they go bang? Reliably?

Here's a further stretch, but just a little... Has anyone shot them out of an m305 ?

PS my range is outdoors and we shoot whatever ammo into the dirt :)

Has anybody tried their .45 Auto?

Is it also steel core and not range friendly?

I bought 1 box and shot 25 rounds of it without any issue in a norc 1911. Was a tad bit dirty but otherwise had a good kick and was accurate enough for me. And if you reload, they are boxer primed :) I've loaded the same 20 cases 5 times now.

Incase you missed it, there was not one bad review of tula ammo in this thread, so I would take the chance and buy the 308 ammo. I highly doubt you would have any issues selling it if it doesn't work good in your m305.
