Hi All,

Thinking of taking the black badge course so need the accessories before I do. Planning to use my Beretta 92FS and I have (of course) 2 mags for it. As far as I understand, I need an appropriate belt, 3 more mags, a holster, and pouches for the extra mags. I would appreciate equipment suggestions and places to buy them. Supporting vendors preferred, of course.

Thanks.

I have bladetech doh holster, and have CR versa mag pouches. Also have a CR belt. I would recommend you have 6 mags total. Because you never know... I bought my stuff at Target Sports...

I did my BB a long time ago with a Glock 17 and the $2 dollar plastic Glock holster they used to give away with it. If I remember right I used some generic knife or flashlight pouch to carry a spare mag and stuffed the rest in my back pocket.

Far and away the most important thing when starting out in IPSC is AMMO ! You're gonna chew through it like crazy. Unfortunately for you the only 22 LR practice gun I can think of is the Chiappa, which has a less than stellar reputation. You'll want to investigate options there to see if there's something else that can help you keep your costs down and practice time up.

As for gearing up I'd suggest taking it slow. Buy the minimum you can get away with and then pay attention to what other people are using. Strike up a conversation and see what other peeps think is good quality and what's just flashy junk. You'll save money by not making the same mistake they did.

Once you have a decent idea of what direction you want to go check EE first. IPSC has alot of gear junkies who are always searching for that magic -1 second advantage. They buy and then dump a ton of stuff which can save you big bucks. I've got a full Ernie Hill rig for my 1911 that I paid near nothing for just by being patient and waiting for bargains to pop up.

when i did my BB i picked up the belt/holster/magholders from Josko at Double tap in Brampton great to deal with. he will be able to help you figure out what you need. I personally prefer spending alittle more money but getting good quality gear (2 years in and still using the gear i bought for BB) DAA belt and mag pouches and a bladetech holster is what i picked up, 5 mags is a minimum I was running my Sig with 5 for about a year with no problems.

have fun

Thanks for the advice guys. Now I need to ask a dumb question: what exactly do you need for IPSC in terms of equipment? What are the minimum requirements?

Thanks again.

1x belt, 1x holster, 4x mag pouch's, 5x magazines. The Double Alpha Academy belts are very nice(good and stiff), Mag pouch's: anything that will fit to your belt will do(I prefer the ghost 360), holsters: the blade-tech holsters are good with the drop and offset and tek-lok(for easy fitting to you belt and removal).

As for the Beretta 92fs get out to the range well in advance and practice 5 round groupings at 20m. Practice double action firing your pistol as much as possible(get use to the trigger pull DA and SA) as well practice firing single handed with your dominant hand then with your weak hand.

Good luck if you have the cash I would get a CZ 75 shadow or CZ sp-01 shadow if not do the best you can with your Beretta.
