I just got myself elected as handgun chair at Sherwood Park Fish and Game Association and I want to put on 2 or 3 fun shoots.

I was thinking of doing an outdoor bowling pin match, another possibly a similar .22 match of some sort popping wood blocks, popcans or the like and finally maybe an actual target paper match for both little and big bores.

Does anyone have any suggestions on fun matches that have worked well for you or your club and got the handgunners out?

Any variations that you think might be be more interesting, especially to get some youth out i.e. a .22 single action only event? A .22 autoloader only?

Any suggestions on keeping both revolver guys and the selfshucker dudes both happy?

I'm not looking at hosting a IPSC, IDPA, SASS or three gun function; just looking for quick, easy fun.

Mainly, what would you go to?

Any and all comments appreciated and welcome.

Thanks,
Tracy

Would have thought so too but last hg chair said that he didn't bother putting on a silhouette match last year because of lack of interest. The year before he set up two separate matches and was the only shooter at both. But thanks!

Woodchopper games are fun. Get a some planks of wood and have people duel it out how long it takes them to hit it enough times to cut it in half. It's reasonably easy to hit, fun reactive target and clean-up afterwards is pretty simple.

How about dropping plates...remotely dropped steel plates etc that you try to hit before they hit the ground...the most consecutive hits wins...or the most hits wins etc

my club had its first pumpkin shoot this past year and it was a BIG success... i guess its a bit early .. but i guess its something you can plan on and advertise

I didn't get to participate in it, but some of the guys at my club were at a shoot where raw eggs were hung on strings (taped to the string I think). If I understood it, you can do say five or ten eggs at different heights and then compete to see who can get the most eggs in a certain number of shots, how many shots to get all of the eggs, or how long it takes. They had a lot of fun with these little reactive targets at 20 yards!

Recommended for outdoor use and you have to do some clean-up, but ideal for .22.

We had a shoot-off at our club for our x-mas party...

person against person - 4 red balloons on each side (filled with gas) Shoot your 4 balloons, do a manditory reload then you popped your yellow balloon. It was eliminations so you ended up with the top two going for the gold (so to speak)

They had the yellow balloons setup so that if the person on the right shot the yellow balloon, the balloon on the left would rise up by a foot or so.

It was alot of fun.

Steel plates actually work better but this was indoors
