Hi all,

Looking for information regarding aurora gun club vs. islington(caledon) gun club in regards to pistol shooting. I'm new to shooting and am interested in finding out about membership waiting times for both clubs, and, after the probationary period what hours would be available to me for target practice. I would also be interested in eventually getting into ipsic.

I've so far emailed aurora with no response and their phone message box is full, islington(caledon) gun club doesn't have a phone number or email, hence me looking for advice.

If the 2 clubs above don't meet my needs going to try the barrie gun club, it's my latter choice because of distance. I live in caledon. I think silverdale gun club is further to me time-wise due to unpredictable qew traffic.

Thanks in advance,

RM

stop by aurora on thur night after 7pm

Got email response, got the same advice(7:30pm and call first). Their range time for members are great.

I think Aurora has a card pass lock, you can use it 24hrs for pistol and .22 rifles.

7:30am to 10:30 pm

From Caledon, i think that Barrie club might be closer for you than Aurora.
Check it out on a map.
BTW. Barrie is currently taking new members.

I'm in south east caledon, aurora much closer.

There is a waiting list at aurora, no idea how long. I've yet to get any info. on islington.

Thanks to all, hopefully get some more advice from the gunnutz members.

I think that would be a lot closer as well, The Aurora club is at Kennedy & St Johns sdrd. Thats a fair hike from Caledon.

Thanks to all again. Map quested the aurora vs barrie from my address, it came up with a difference of a few minutes.

Going to join barrie, if they're accepting new members, for now. Going to get info. for islington gun club(got to snail mail them). From what I could research there's definitely a waiting list at islington and you need a sponsor(don't know how to get by that one not knowing any members).

Cheers,

Joining most Ontario gun clubs is an exercise in futility and frustration.

Arm yourself with lot of patience, there will be lot of discouragement along the way, but don't give up.

Cheers,

Also don't forget that Aurora has an indoors range only.
Can't say anything about Caledon, but at Barrie Gun Club you can shoot outdoors as well if you wish (e.g. if you decide to diversify your shooting experience with rifles and shotguns).
To join BGC you'll have to sign up and wait for a spot available on one of their internal safety courses, and 3 months probation period (during which you still can shoot, but only in a supervised manner); the club will apply for a long term ATT for you after the probation period is over (and you'd better own something restricted by then ;))

Try Barrie. Great club.

I've been on the waiting list for Aurora Gunclub now for two years.
Barrie might be best bet LOL

Great advice, many thanks, have contacted barrie. They are taking a limited amount of new members, told it's going to be 6 weeks plus for next available orientation course. Got to get up there in person though, with my paperwork, before I can sign up. Next available sign up is next week. I've still got no info. on islington, thought someone on gunnutz would chime in, sounds exclusive.
