Need Advice Looking For Bolts To Mount Tang Sight For Pedersoli High Wall

There are some accepted guidelines for how many threads needed for full torque engagement - I have been using idea that diameter of screw - #6 or #8 - is depth of thread engagement that is needed - but I suspect is really about "thread count" that matters. When I was drill and tap rear receiver bridge on Mausers, I did not often get my "rule of thumb" - if I could ever start a tap straight with no wobble - to get a sharp and "to dimension" first thread, I no longer can do that - I have to drill hole, then swap out drill bit for tap and start that thread by hand spinning the chuck - so might be about needed "good thread" engagement, not just count of threads. I have not bought those tang sights - do they not come with mounting screws? I use a tap into flat bar - make my own "gizzy" - so usually get screws too long, run through that "gizzy" and file or cut off to length, then unscrew to clean out and straighten the leading threads. You lose the "tapered" (smaller diameter) first thread that way, though.

Yes you will for a secure mount but for a "usable under careful conditions" you can probably get about 3 threads to engage with the original. This will work but handle carefully!!
I think Phil Belozir is still a pedersoli importer so may be a source for longer bolts.
There is a workable solution that is not pretty but your local hardware will be your source. I have mounted tangs that i didnt have proper bolts for with just common threaded long machine screws and a thin nut. Use a machine screw that is smaller in dia than your tang threads are so they dont get buggered up by the machine screw threads. Cut the machine screw to a length that just fully engages the nut and file smooth so it doesnt bite your hand/fingers at recoil and your away....it aint purty but it will get you shooting in minutes.

Specifically about where to get screws - starts with identifying exactly what you need - diameter and thread count - is "dozens" of various thread series and metric sizes - might be your challenge to even figure out what you need, versus looking for "a" screw. Or can be "redneck" and force hardware store #6-32 into a metric thread and call it "good enough".

One (1) screw for Sharps Tang Sight, #10-28 thread, bright steel to mount Sharps tang sight. These screws have a .312" diameter head for fit American manufactured tang sight bases, such as Axtell, or MVA. Overall length of .375", and threaded shaft of .26".
Two of these screws are required! to mount a tang sight on an a Sharps rifle. This odd #10-28 minimum diameter thread size fits the tight thread seats used on Davide Pedersoli Sharps, and some lesser known Italian Sharps replicas.
If your Italian manufactured Sharps rifle has original style mounting screw holes in the tang, spaced 2.260" center to center, this screw will fit perfectly. Order two screws.
This screw will not fit the 1863 or 1874 Sharps rifles by Pedretti, SILE, EMF, IAB, Powder River, or Marcheno these rifles require 4-.7mm metric screws.
Additionally, if you purchased everything new, it should have come with the appropriate hardware. I have several BPC rifles, all with tang sights. All required a longer screw to secure the sight & stock plus a small machine screw, usually a #8 or #10 to secure the front of the sight.

Go to Pedersoli's website then accessories and then spare parts. They have it all listed. If you cant find what you need email them for the part numbers and order by email and they will mail it to you. They used to take payment by cc.
