Need advice on a first.

Hey folks,

Let me start off by saying I'm sorry if you're tired of these threads.. if you don't want to help just click that back button on the top of your browsers please. :)

I have been looking for restricted (or non) semi-auto tactical rifle for a while now but there are a LOT of options. Price is not a huge deal, but I'd like to keep it under $2000. I guess I'm just curious to hear what you guys think about the reliability, functionality, and "bang for your buck" of the many choices there are out there floating around this price range. Looking for something relatively light and compact(preferably a collapsible stock) that won't let me down. I'm not going to put the cheapest ####e through it but I'm not going to put the best through either. Hopefully easy to accessorize in terms of low cost of replacement mags and parts etc.. Will be used for plinking at the range but probably built more like a PDW or CQB rifle.

Restricted? AR-15. Absolutely no reason to buy anything else.

Non restricted for sub-2k? A used XCR. Again, not many other good choices.
 
I don't like ar-15 because they are restricted. If I'm spending that much on a gun I want to use it where I want and when I want.

You could just grab an sks and modify the crap out of it. Cheap gun cheap ammo plenty of accessories and non-restricted. You won't get ar-15 accuracy or the sheer volume of mods though.
 
In non restricted I would say SL8 because it is very close to your price cap new and is far better than those choices under 2k new IMO.

For Restricted, buy a quality used AR like a sig, HK, etc.
 
Ummm I would seriously look at a Ruger SR 556 gas piston $1695. You can pick up a Tavor for $2000 plus tax. what caliber do you want to shoot 5.56x45 or 7.62x39? or 7.62 NATO? I personally have an xcr in 7.62x39 and norinco 556 and norinco m305 love em all
 
My favorite firearm is my rfb, but from your description id say go with a proven ar, a nice sig m400 or a daniel defence.

Id say daniel defence m4v5 or mk18
