Need advice on a trap gun for my wife

I am not a shotgun expert but here is what I do know:

My wife is 5'2" and has a very short length of pull.
Shooting 7.62x39 made her cry, shooting .223 & 22LR did not.

So, I am wondering. Will she be able to handle a 20ga with target loads if 7.62x39 was too much or should I stick with a .410? Or will that be too hard for a beginner? Would need to be a youth model as even an SKS is too long for her.

7.62x 39 is a beginner round, 7 pounds recoil. If that bothers her, she has a bad fit or she is not holding it correctly. Having that said, for shotguns if you keep the loads light it shouldn't recoil too bad, but remember that recoil is proportional to the weight of the gun. Lighter gun = more kick.

.410 is a tough little gun to get good at, although it can be done. The misgivings on 410 is the small shot capacity and expensive shells, unless you reload.

A 20g is cheaper to feed, but not as inexpensive as 12g . A trap gun is not carried for hours in the bush or Fields, I would recommend finding a 12g that swings and fits good for her, with 20g as a second choice ( but more recoil).

She can't shoulder any of my firearms properly because of her length of pull. The fact that I'm 6'5" and have extenders on everything doesn't help, but even with them off she has problems, hence the need for a youth gun.

All the youth shotguns I've seen were .410 0r 20, I haven't seen any 12 so far, recommendation?

20g over and under that fits her will last her a life time and she will enjoy it and will be able to pas it down to her kids .686 or a citori micro midas are what I would start with D

A shotgun is all about fit and balance. Take your sweetie down to the local gun shop and see what fits her? I have a 12 and 20 pair of over/under, and ironically the ladies choose the 12guage. However its not the cheapest way to go.

Have a look at the Browning Silver micro midas its available in both 12 ga and 20 ga .gas operated so recoil is about as soft as you will find in a shotgun .
