Hi guys

I currently own a remington 1100 semi auto shotgun and its getting old very old
I used to really like this shotgun when i was younger and shooting my dad. But now got my RPAL and i own it.. Want something tacticool.

After seeing all kinds of black and green shotgun

heres top of my list : benelli m4 , remington 870 and mossberg 90a1

If possible i want a NON-Restricted,tactical looking stock, has or can put pistol grip, semi-auto or pump and an accessory rail aka picatinny rail.

i want something cool...im sure you get what type of shotgun im looking for..

i dont know much about shotgun models legal in canada but i know those we cannot legally own here such as : *cough, cough* AA-12,Usas12,Saiga 12 or even Pancor jackhammer lol.

please help

thanks

Very vague description...need more info...short/long barrel, semi/pump since that makes a big difference, etc...

What do you plan to do with it?

Tactical drills? Potential hunting? 3 gun matches? Looking cool in front of the mirror? Home defence? SHTF gun? Reliability? After market dress up parts?

In other words, we need to know what you want to use it for in general.

More info needed for sure. But it depends on where you live too, if you're close to a gun store that has a decent selection just go try them all out and make a decision from there. Nothing beats getting to hold them all and decide that way. What I like and what you like could be quite a ways away from each other. But good luck with the search though. . . my choice would be the 590a1 (thinking of going and picking one up tomorrow actually)

vince, I'm relatively new to the world of black shotguns but here's what I've discovered so far.

1. Rem 870's are REALLY LOW QUALITY. I understood a really important concept, you get what you paid for. Not to mention that a good firearm will be with you to the day you are in your grave. The 870 will give you reliability but its quality and too much non-metal parts is a turn off to some.

2. Benelli M4's are REALLY HIGH quality. So high in fact that there's very little to say in terms of bad news. The only thing I don't like about it is that I heard its mag tube is fixed to 5..... not pinned or plugged but fixed. Other than that it's really good.

3. Mossberg 590A1 is one of my favorites because I own this shotgun. It's heavy and high quality. Be sure to only buy the 590A1 SPX 9-shot with LPA Ghost Sights. There are many other models of the 590 and 590A1 but the one I listed above is THEE BEST one. Check out my review on that one by searching.

4. Remington Versa Max Tactical: New and I don't have enough information. A review recently from a CGN member claims it is incredible and I was told the trigger group and guard was all metal. I've been salivating over this one for a few months already....

5. Benelli M2 3-Gun: Another semi-auto from Benelli but is nowhere to be found in Canada yet. I heard this one is also really good but not enough "CGN" feedback by fellow members to give you any real decision.

6. Mossberg 930: Some like it, others don't. I'd suggest trying this one out if anyone is near where you live. I've never seen or tried it out but read that people have cycling issues with it on lighter loads. I'm sure there are experts that can fill you in on this one.

In the end you can't go wrong with a higher end shotgun. The more you pay, the more you get out of it. I have yet to see a black shotgun that is high in price and low in quality. You WILL get what you pay in terms of black shotguns. I'd suggest the 590A1 SPX 9 shot and the Remington Versa Max Tactical.

If you have the means you cant do better than a Benelli M4, i've got both version the collapsabile and the strait, i recommend the strait, better chekweld for rapid fire with their great ghost sight, i will be ordering the Turkey choke from Benelli as i intend to use it for next year Spring turkey hunt... There are plenty of choices -

So you have to narrow it down a bit better than what you typed down.

If you are considering a Benelli and can justify the price then pony up! Everything else will leave room for improvement. I tried both rem and mossys but it feels like going from a cadillac to a beat up old chevy. Have a look at the Supernova if $2g is too much to spend. Prices range from $700 to $800 for a tactical ghost ring model. I feel they are better than a remington in every way.

Very nice shotguns you got there!!!!!!

I want to do target shooting, a little bit of hunting, and have the possibility to mount an optic if i want to.. Looking good in front of the mirror is out of the question! lol(nice one there)

I prefer semi auto over pump if they are reliable with good ammo guys..
barrel : i always prefer full lenght weapons.. so a medium / long barrel is allright!

Of course i dont like the price of the benelli M4 but if i need to pay over 2000$ ill be able to afford it ONE day.

shotgun

You have to nail down your budget 1st.

If it is unlimited then why compare 200/300 dollar guns to a Benelli.
IF a semi is what you want then the Benelli IS the mark....everything else is subpar. IF I was going semi I would buy the best gun I could afford. You don't need to spend a ton of $$ to get into a good pump....you do with a semi.

IF you're not stuck on a semi then you way more room to play.
A 590A1 is prolly the best bet for an out of the box serious black shotgun.
A HIGH QUALITY 870 either out of the box or built from same is right there or next IMO.

Don't tar/feather all 870's based on late model expresses or clones....Not fair and wrong.

Everything else comes after these choices and they get poorer real fast.

Semi or Pump??.............. Then pony up or shut up!

Does the Hatsan MP-A (top shotgun in sendmorebrains' pic) have removeable chokes? If so it would be a good starting point for exactly what you need. They have proven to be highly reliable and versatile and IIRC come in around $500. Call it a poor man's Benelli. A cyl bore will limit hunting with shot loads to shorter ranges but if the bore is not chrome lined then it can usually be tapped for chokes for under $100.

OK semi auto then - look into a Hatsan MP-A (bottom shotgun)

If u shop smart you can get one around $425.00

You can put chokes on it but I dont hunt so Ive never put one on. ( I have several chokes collecting dust)

I do target shoot with it - if u call shooting steel plate target shooting.
Mine is @8000 + on the shot count. Cycles cheep target loads which means ur hunting loads will cycle as well.

There are a few options in the Ithaca line as well ;)

Pic rails will be available for them all shortly. The first two pictured below are available with 8 shot mag tubes as well.
