I have a pre 64 Winchester 1894 in 30-30, I recently took it apart for cleaning , I reassembled everything but now the lifter is not going down all the , thus preventing the loading gate from opening, The lifter is about an 1/8" from being fully seated, I tried replacing the carrier spring but that did not fix the problem. I am out ideas and would really appreciate any input

Thanks
Sean

Check that the two carrier screws (29) are properly in their holes in the lifter, and that you didn't bend the lifter when you put them in. Also check that the carrier spring is properly positioned.

Take it apart again. Make sure the cartridge guides are in their correct spot and the screws tight. The lifter spring has to be in place prior to the lifter going in. You will have to "jockey" the lifter around to get the screws in, they are an exact fit. Make sure the lifter is not sprung or pinched and has the proper "snap" when it's in.
