Need advice on scopes for a WK180

I am prepping for the arrival of my WK180, one of the scopes i am contemplating putting on the rifle is a bushnell 3-9x-42 banner scope. It is a scope my grandfather gave me when he passed, I am uncertain of how old it is . I am mostly curious of if this scope would be ruined by the recoil of the Wk. I think he had previously mounted this scope on a hunting rifle that shot 7x64 cartridges. Should I use this scope on my new WK? Or not risk it and buy something purpose built

That scope would probably work fine
I put a bushnell 1-4 on mine and it’s been good so far, 223 doesn’t have much recoil
 
If that scope can take the recoil of 7x64, then it will most likely outlast your 180.

.224/5.56NATO has negligible recoil.

However, I would recommend thinking about an update. Eye relief, parallax, optical clarity, have all come a long way in the past decade or so. If it's one of the older ones (they've been making the Banner line for decades), a decent $200-$300 scope will outperform it in almost every regard.
 
but in all seriousness, if you have 1200$ kicking around for a new rifle, why go on the cheap and use an old bushnell scope? As others have said you can get something "decent" for 300$ ish. If money is crazy tight, use the old bushnell until you get funds for something better. I myself would be putting a red dot or low power variable on that but thats just me.
 
I hadn't considered how much scope technology has moved forward. I was considering using the old scope for sentimental reasons however I am reconsidering now that you guys have pointed it out.

Since the $300 range popped up a couple times, is there a go to scope in that range?

300$ scopes are pretty entry level (ish). I would personally recommend a red dot for this rifle and 300$ gets you a decent ish dot. Something along the lines of Vortex Sparc AR or Holosun.
 
Nikon P-Tactical and Vortex Diamondback Tactical scopes are in the $300 range, and are definitely above "entry level" scopes.

The Nikon P-Tactical is a solid scope, with a Bullet Drop reticle:

The dark horse candidate in this price range are the Vomz scopes. I have 3 of these on different rifles, including on my 3-gun AR. Good clear optics, and they're built "Russia Stronk!" The one on my AR has taken an absolute beating, and never lost zero.

What do you intend to use the rifle for? I have one on pre-order as well. My intended use is backyard plinking and short to mid range varmint gun. I have a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 to mount on it . If yours is just going to be a casual plinker, I think your Banner will be fine. I have an SKS and a 22 lever both running Banner 1.5-5x32 and both are working fine for what I use them for ( casual target shooting/ backyard plinking, small game for the 22). You can upgrade the glass in the future if you feel the need.

Your scope would be fine, but as others have said, it's not likely the best choice. If you're buying something else, your choice will really depend on what kind of shooting you want to do. For close to medium range, I had a Burris AR332 3X on mine, which worked well, before I decided to stick with iron sights. I've seen them on the EE for under $400. Vortex Spitfire 3x is a similar optic for a similar price.

Great Prism Sight......You can add a micro red dot on the rails... Poor Man's ACOG ....Lifetime Warranty, what not to love!

That was just the first sponsor site that came up on a google search...

FWIW, I'd go with the Vomz 1.2-6x... I've had really good luck with them. It's just become my favorite scope general shooting.

I put irons on mine to keep it light and handy. Irons are good out to 500m if you practice and know how to adjust the sights properly.
